Rev. Billy/Bill Talen is a Dutch-American, Calvinist Minnesota- born actor. He worked in San Francisco and moved back to New York City in the early 90s where he created the character of a street preacher evangelical and became an activist.
The Rev. and his Church and Choir have worked with Occupy Wall Street, against excess consumerism, multinational corporate greed, student debt, homelessness, worker exploitation, Monsanto and fossil fuel financing Banks.
Rev. Billy and his Church also support earth justice and the environment, ending destructive mountaintop removal and strip mining of coal in WV and Appalachia and fight against climate change. Earthelujah!

(14,691 posts)I attended some of his demos against sweatshops and child labor. He's also vocally anti-gentrification. He became such a problem for Starbucks they created an instructional booklet that I think was titled "What to do if Rev. Billy comes into your store" or something like that. He's been arrested numerous times (and I mean that as a good thing.)

A block from the White House, PNC BANK was the scene of protest for financing *COAL EXTRACTION in West Virginia and Appalachia through destructive, poisonous MTR- MOUNTAINTOP REMOVAL and STRIP MINING.
Rev. Billy led the group of eco-activists, Earth Quakers and Rainforest Action Network to build a symbolic 'MOUNTAIN' from earth and mud brought from APPALACHIA to the bank lobby to shed light on the problem. Earthelujah!
