Back when radio hosts were worth a damn.

(6,960 posts)A couple of months ago I finished reading John Henry Faulk's book 'Fear on Trial'.
In the book Faulk describes in detail his experience with the 'blacklist' and his lawsuit against his accusers; the great Louis Nizer was his attorney. Faulk won and that pretty much was the end of the blacklist. However, Faulk was never able to recover the upward arc of his career.
Faulk was a great proponent of freedom and liberty ... and a wonderful entertainer.

(57,081 posts)it was the first one in Austin to break Jim Crow, and his father, Judge Faulk defended Eugene Debs for treason. His book, The Making of a Liberal Mind, is a wonderful book. Faulk along with Frank Dobie, talked a farmer named Zilker into donating the land for Zilker Park. They talked Austin into making Barton Springs a public swimming pool. The whole family is and was wonderful good folks of a civic mind who lived their words. There home was the birth place of the Yellow Dog Democrats.
