Related: About this forumThe Religious Right’s Crusade Against Non-Fringe Christians
After being handed a very strong defeat with the Supreme Courts ruling on same sex marriage, the Christian Right didnt have to search for too long to find a new group of people to hate. Their latest target is liberal Christians.
Christians are furious at religious progressives for teaching things like the virtues of scientific discovery, tolerance, and caring for the needy, so theyre lashing out and demonizing Christians who actually follow the teachings of Jesus.
Ring of Fires Farron Cousins discusses this.

(23,975 posts)It must feel awful to be in such a state of agitation all the time.
I haven't yet ginned up the courage to listen to this.

(2,065 posts)The video's not so bad, primarily because it's not so long. It's not so creepy, dark or disturbing either. It's basically just Farron Cousins as a talking head, voicing his progressive opinions, and nothing more.
Hmmm... If they were to make a documentary about this phenomenon, along the lines of "Jesus Camp", what would the title be?

(39,215 posts)They were cults until Jerry Falwell brought them out of the slime.
When our country was being founded we were there. Our old mainstream churches. There are stories about the churches leaders like the Muellenberg brothers stepping down from altar to go to fight with Washington. Those same leaders became congressmen after the Revolutionary War.
Our churches believe in the separation of church and state - they do not. They want a church run government. We believe that the ten commandments are a tool to measure our own personal sin. They think it is to measure the sin of others.
We were not always as tolerant as we should have been but we did not reinterpret the message to fit our greed and hate. We are greedy and hateful but we know we are wrong and just willful. We are not perfect by any means. We do not claim to be. But we are still teaching a loving God who cares about everyone. They are not. So if they want to let them try.
Not trying to preach. Just talking back to the hateful churches.
Oh and I am very glad that at least in part Pope Frances is with us.

(4,879 posts)Being in Texas, I find myself surrounded by these non-evolved and devolved neanderthals.
Their lives are so abundantly miserable that they feel the need to spread that misery far and wide.
Unfortunately there are so many of them in our government ... well you know the rest. We all suffer for their misery.
Full disclosure: I'm an atheist, so it wouldn't bother me a bit if all religion went the way of the dinosaurs.
