(18,124 posts)of people who voted RW Tuesday refer to the POTUS just as he did. Who says the RW isn't racist and that the vote wasn't about race. Denial is the only excuse if you can't see it.

(21,753 posts)and I can testify that from Day One after Obama's election I have been shocked to hear this kind of hateful, fearful, racist and just plain ignorant talk coming from neighbors, co-workers and friends that I have known, liked, worked beside and lived among for 20, 30, 40 years and longer. Not all of them, probably less than 5 %, but some very vocal and unabashed pure naked fear and hatred for a Black President.
On the morning after the 2008 election. a very sweet, likable older woman who I have known forever told me (in wide-eyed sincerity) that Obama would make it legal for black men to rape white women, and she no longer felt save.
A co-worker told me that he would rather die than to let a N***** tell him what to do. Another told me he had a bullet with Obama's name on it. Another told me that it was time to round up all the N****** and put them against a wall and shoot them (he added that he would volunteer to help and would even buy his own bullets). This same guy told me before the election that he had voted Democrat all his life, but he could never vote for a Black President.
I hear conservatives on TV and radio saying that racism is dead in America, and cite a Black President as proof. Brit Hume said just this morning that not a single Republican had made race an issue, it is all Democrats "playing that card". Conservatives don't have to "make" race an issue; it is already a base issue for many of their supporters.

(18,124 posts)for being brave and principled enough to tell the truth about some democrats and most republicans. An AA POTUS has caused me to be more firm and more resolute in what I have always stated.....while most white americans, I hope, are not racist, this culture is, both systemically and institutionally.
