This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs the Climate--Naomi Klein Book Trailer

This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs the Climate - Book Trailer

Published on Aug 7, 2014

The new book by Naomi Klein. In stores September 16 and available for pre-order. For more information, tour dates, or to buy the book: http://thischangeseverything.org/

Forget everything you think you know about global warming. The really inconvenient truth is that it’s not about carbon—it’s about capitalism. The convenient truth is that we can seize this existential crisis to transform our failed economic system and build something radically better.

In her most provocative book yet, Naomi Klein, author of the global bestsellers The Shock Doctrine and No Logo, tackles the most profound threat humanity has ever faced: the war our economic model is waging against life on earth.

1. That we MUST change our economic behaviors

is inarguable. I've been seeing people rebut with accusations of "Socialism!" or "Communism!!!" These unfortunates are likely FOX sycophants. However, I know we're treading on the uber wealthy megalomaniacs' toes when they use their propaganda machine (the M$M) to derisively denounce those of us who recognize that capitalism is a destructive force.

And convince people that we are not talking about an ism but something new. a system that works in our real world...and all of the isms of the past have failed and will fail because it is the nature of isms to do so.

If this world is to be saved or rather preserved, we must start thinking outside the box that isms put us in...and convince people that change must come.

Read him again in college...

Marx predicted what we're seeing, great philosopher that he was.

I doubt we can convince US citizens to "think outside the box," since the love of filthy lucre changes us--and, never for the better.

But I wish I had, but things like that never interested me much.
But he is a good example of how you take a philosophy and turn it into an ism...and the ism was not his creation but the ones who read his books made it one...by falsely assuming there is only one answer.
Communism is the same thing...communal living is a great thing and a wonderful way to live, but when you put the ism to it, it becomes as oppressive and silly as capitalism...it is what happens when you become fixated on a single idea or solution to a problem.

I find that when people etch their beliefs in stone, the result is often an ism. People who are intractable about their beliefs are rigid in many ways.

I recommend Richard Hofstadter's "The Paranoid Style in American Politics." In fact, most of his essays are enlightening.

Have you read LaFeber's "The American Age"? That's the book that helped me understand how much propaganda had been rammed down my throat in public schools.

If it wasn't for people like her, Chris Hedges, Bernie Sanders and so many of the good people right here on DU I would feel very alone in this world.

We are running out of time and our living world, our ecosystems, are collapsing. It isn't hyperbole. It isn't fear mongering. It is reality. The time we have to take action, real action, is quickly closing.

And yet, people are telling me I have to hold my nose and vote for the lesser of two evils. I have to pardon those who devote their lives and money to supporting Wall St. Who in doing so directly provide material support for groups like the Cato Institute and fund climate denial "science" for corporations like Chevron because of "jobs & retirement!".

People talk about living in the "real world". Like the real world is concrete and steel air conditioned towers, sprawling suburbs, millions of miles of asphalt, strip malls and airports. That is not the "real world". The real world is out there in between all of that. In the mountains and valleys, in the rivers and jungles, in the forests and oceans. That is "The Real World" and we are killing it. For today, tomorrow and forever.

I would suggest those people start thinking about "The Real World" and what they want as a legacy. At this point, they are no different than the people who clung to slavery. "But, what will I do for money? What about my comfort?"
Causing massive suffering and death is never an excuse for an income. At least, not for a liberal mind. And make no mistake, climate change as an issue trumps slavery, Nazis, plagues and any other obstacle progressive minded people have had to overcome in our short time on this planet. It threatens not only us and our offspring, but the entire natural world and the works of every person who has ever lived and died trying to make a difference. It is our swan song, it can be our saving grace or it can be our epitaph. It is never too late to start living a life that makes things better instead of one that assures they will only get worse.
