Fox News Guest: 'I'm Not Saying She Deserved To Be Raped, But...'

Published on Oct 18, 2013
"The Fox News Channel may have taken its "Fair and Balanced" motto a little too far on Thursday when it invited criminal defense attorney Joseph DiBenedetto to make case for why an alleged rape victim was asking to be assaulted. Following the news that a Missouri county prosecutor had asked for a special prosecutor to review the charge that a 14-year-old girl was raped by an older high school student in 2012, Fox News host Shepard Smith turned to DiBenedetto for a counterpoint...".* Part of Joseph's response included saying "I'm not saying she deserved to be raped but..." which has sparked outrage. Cenk Uygur, Ana Kasparian, Ben Mankiewicz (What The Flick?! and TYT Sports), and John Iadarola (TYT University and Common Room) break it down on The Young Turks.

Joseph DiBenedetto, you totally embarrassed your parents on national TV. You are lucky I'm not your mother. I hope you apologize to your parents and family members.

I am not saying she deserved to be Raped, but she did
That is an insult to every Man. Woman, and Child that has ever been raped
and Sadly as we have seen recently by a few court case decisions that is the mentality of our legal system.
And Our Media

Remember CNN going on and on about how the poor Steubenville's Rapist life was not ruined
aww

And the Judge that decided a 14 year was just as much in to blame as her rapist

Protect your daughters, raise your sons not to Rape, and if the unspeakable happens, don't be afraid to shout it out loud. Victims should not be shamed or embarasses into silence!!!!

Did respiration while buzzed become consent? At what point did under age alcohol consumption equal age of consent?

Rape has nothing to do with sex. It is a crime of dominance. By raping an unconsciouses girl the young male established his sense of supremacy over a victim. To allow him to evade some justice for her is injustice against her.

Don't all of us have the personal responsibility to not take advantage of people in vicious ways? (That's a rhetorical question I shouldn't even have to ask, but we live in a sick society.)

He's an absolute disgrace to humanity and should crawl back under the rock from which he emerged. He's also a disgrace to the legal profession.

...I wish someone had pointed out that she "got caught" when her mother discovered her outside, nearly frozen to death, trying to get to the front door. Did that girl, by sneaking out and getting drunk, tacitly agree to be raped, and then dumped outside -- injured, dangerously drunk and barely conscious -- in 22-degree weather and left to die?

These are the other "facts of the case" that the lawyer carefully did not mention.

Beyond disgusting.

Mon Oct 21, 2013, 05:43 PM

Not only are rape victims blamed for their own victimization, but we see the same attitude manifested by those who defend bullying in the schools. They say the victims of bullying bring it upon themselves, as if the bullies have no personal responsibility. Conservatives are always talking about personal responsibility; yet in a disgusting display of blatant hypocrisy, some, if not many, of them do not appear to hold rapists and school bullies personally responsible for their own evil choices. I'm sure this is true because many conservatives are fascinated by the stronger or more powerful abusing the weaker or the powerless. They get off on it in a sick sort of way!
