(23,765 posts)Fuck the military! We have been glorifying the killing of other nationals ever since Vietnam, our collective guilt over what might or might not have happened to a few soldiers upon their return to the US has had us kissing their ass even since. And double fuck law enforcement, shows like COPS which glorify disrespect to those SUSPECTED of criminal activity was the start our erosion of civil rights. All have for police now are a bunch of arrogant, steroid driven Neanderthals who don't give a damn about the constitution!

(1,555 posts)You need to understand; the military doesn't govern its own actions. The military is directed by our appointed representatives. Your venom toward our armed services is misdirected.
As to the erosion of civil rights, you need to consider the virtual cold war that is going on between gun collectors and law enforcement. Additionally, while I wont defend bad cops... you're painting with a very broad brush... there are some very good cops out there who try very hard to fight a tainted system. Problem is they have very few tools to do so. When those in the a department rail against obviously aggressive and abrasive tactics, or meeting ticket quotas to prove that the department is "doing its job", it shows there is a fundamental problem with leadership.
The same holds true for military personnel and any other civil servant for that matter.
I understand your anger, I do... but the blame here simply doesn't belong to all those average citizens who are just doing their job. I can also understand the desire to want to call them names and turn them into the "other"... to objectify them, but doing so only makes us as bad as anti women's rights groups or worse, fringe hate groups. Its a trap that we simply cannot, must not, fall into.
If you want real change, and it sounds like you do, it starts with the leadership. We have to work together to change the leadership, or pile on political pressure to get the changes we want. We have to work with the system as it is now, to get the system we want. It's hard, and it sucks... but it's also the right way to do this.

(962 posts)"Look no further than the Boston bombing to see how this equipment was able to protect the citizens." What? When I look at the immediate aftermath of that I see a metropolitan area that was under siege - of cops dressed up for army! This will only get more scary.
