Howard University students' video PSA campaign: Do I look suspicious?

A video featuring young men from Howard University speaking about racial profiling and the killing of Trayvon Martin. The school is located in Washington, DC, and is one of America's oldest historically black universities. More information on the efforts of the Howard community to raise awareness can be found here. nephews who are young men, even if they should decide to visit one of these stand your ground hellholes. Black & white parents shouldn't have to have different discussions with their young sons. This is America dammit! Sounds like a movement's being borne out of this tragedy, and let's hope it saves some lives.

I never thought about it that way. I honestly don't think I ever had that conversation with my son when he was young. I guess I didn't think it was necessary. We had friends that covered every nook and cranny of the spectrum. I never thought to explain to him that some of our friends could be treated differently than we were. Obviously, he knew what racism and bigotry was and that it was wrong. I just don't recall ever talking to him about it.

I hope a movement is growing. You're right, this is America. We're Americans and our history is rich with diversity along with racism and bigotry. Our young people seem to be getting sick of that shit. I don't want Trayvon to become a martyr. But, I wouldn't mind if he could be the face of our youth...of all colors, races, faiths, etc. I just wish we could ask him if that would be okay with him.

cared deeply about him. His problem was he met a "creepy" stranger with a gun, who knew absolutely nothing about him. The irony of all this is that it was a gated community, and the reputation of such communities is that they are safe. Sadly, I guess "safety" still depends on how you look in some communities.

Thank you.

There are times when my faith in humanity can be shaken. I fight to protect it, but days like this it's tough. Watching this PSA did several things: 1) Made me smile. 2) Brought a tear to my eye. 3) Gave me hope.

And I'm an aging white woman. I can't imagine how it will affect a young black boy or girl. I hope that it empowers them, gives them courage.

We've got some tough lawyers coming up in the ranks. I hope the Zimmermans of the future are prepared. It won't be so easy next time.

I don't think the kids need to see it as much as the rest of the generations alive should !!!!
Racism is TAUGHT.

I know people like Zimmerman, they are everywhere in this country.
All ages, all backgrounds.

This needs to be picked up by a major media company. How about that 60 Minutes?
They should do a full hour on this PSA and reaction to it from all generations, all walks of life in this country and pronto.

To the writers, actors and directors

that was BRILLIANT.

thank you !!!!
