After VP Biden called the finally tally, Tucson survivor Patricia Maisch yelled, “Shame on you!”

Manchin/Toomey amendment voted down

The Senate voted down the Manchin/Toomey amendment to expand background checks for gun purchases at gun shows and online, in a vote of 54-46. The measure needed 60 votes to be included in the underlining bill. As Vice President Joe Biden called the finally tally, Tucson survivor Patricia Maisch yelled, “Shame on you!” Outside of chamber she said, “They have no soul.” ...

Four Republicans voted in favor of the measure, including Sens. Collins, McCain, Toomey, and Kirk. Four Democrats voted against it: Sens. Heitkamp, Pryor, Baucus, and Begich.

p.s. Reid HAD TO vote 'no' due to procedural rule in order to be able to bring it back to the floor in the future.

He is done.

He has completely lost any respect from the party base and their is no way to make up the difference in votes with the unicorn moderate repugs.

They are screaming at brick walls elected in the states. The hope is they resubmit the bill as noted in last paragraph of the OP. It's hard in the states to turn this around.

CT, MD and NY led the way to get this done on their state level and every state must. The federal government is a media showpiece but real change can only be done in the states that elect these guys.

We know how the GOP has stripped women's rights state by state despite federal law saying they have them. Too many people are uninvolved. Bertolt Brecht said over half a century ago:

wrote to the Senators of the state where my grandchildren live...South Carolina. They basically told me to pound sand since I didn't live in their state. I bet they'd be happy to respond to me if I were offering them campaign money.

I don't know what else to do. I'm devastated.

The Tea Party's local and state influence is what needs to be overcome - and gosh, it seems overwhelming at times, since they have media dominance.

We can't expect those in D.C. to act independently of what the majority of their voters want. Whether we want to believe it or not, because it's such a convenient conspiracy, they are not acting for the most part due to corporate funds.

If that were so, they'd be run out of office. Those corporate dollars that may flow into their campaigns are nothing compared to the hundred of millions invested in media to get people to vote for them.

This America, this is us. No one else is responsible. I know why manydon't want to get into local politics. They would rather focus on something that is far away, as it's safer.

It's dangerous to confront one's neighbors at times. They will go after you socially, financially, even physically. That is why so many good souls don't vote, don't get involved, and just hope for the best because they have heard the voices of intolerance, threats, hate and anti-social politics.

Note: Reid had to vote no in order to be able to bring the bill back to the floor again in the future - it's goofy senate procedural rule.

Revolting behavior from our Congress. I would like to know why they did not force those freaks to stand up in the Halls of Congress and filibuster until they dropped dead. Spewing their ridiculous convoluted reasoning for their cowardly lack of leadership as the whole country watched.

I am very close to calling it quits in terms of supporting anyone in public office for any reason. I just don't think I can keep following a leader I can't find.

Thanks for posting this brave woman's public shaming of our Congress. If anyone was entitled to speak her piece, she was.

If the filibuster rule had been fixed, then the DEMOCRATIC controlled Senate could pass bills.
If the House doesn't pass them, then use that as a hammer to get the rethugs and dinos voted out of office.

All this does is give the rethug house cover.
