Woodward turned around and said Obama should just ignore the sequester and act under his power as Commander in Chief by ignoring the law (I presume he would advise the same thing on the debt ceiling). Now just who is being Nixonian again?

Woodward admits that "I talked extensively with all involved" then took sides regarding who was telling the truth. There is only one truth and Sperling is just setting the record straight with Woodward. A good journalist would know that the way to verify a charge of "moving the goal posts" would be to review what was actually being said at the time versus what is being said today. Woodward failed Journalism 101 by accepting one side of the argument without benefit of doing the grunt work of verification of facts. This is in fact yellow journalism being practiced by Woodward in this exchange.

at the man 'who brought down a President' and has now been brought down to the level of a toady of the Republican smear machine:

New Conservative Hero Bob Woodward Has an Obama Threat Level Problem

http://news.yahoo.com/conservative-hero-bob-woodward-obama-threat-level-problem-040141997.html

At the same page, this link from 2011:

Obama Has Been Scandal-Free for 28 Months

Bored with Obama's (relatively) drama-free presidency so far? According to Brendan Nyhan, of the University of Michigan, the president is due for his first big scandal pretty soon. The political scientist and blogger defines a political scandal as "a widespread elite perception of misbehavior whose occurrence is also influenced by political and media context." Then he took a look at the front page of The Washington Post:

I collect data for 1977–2008 (the period for which Post archives are available in electronic form). Controversies concerning the president and executive branch were defined as being called scandals if they were described as such (i.e., “scandal”) in the reporter’s voice or the headline. From this set of articles, I determine the first time the Post published a front-page story focusing on the controversy in question. This restriction helps identify the most salient controversies at the point at which they become highly prominent and generate widespread coverage...

http://www.theatlanticwire.com/politics/2011/05/obamas-34-months-without-scandal/38197/

May be why Woodward is dying to make one up. As far as waiting for one, Andrew Sullivan said:

It couldn't be because he is not corrupt and that that standard has not trickled down?

Give it up, Bob, your ship has sailed...

But he did get that email from Sperling revealed. You know, the one where Sperling says:

"The idea that the sequester was to force both sides to go back to try at a big or grand barain with a mix of entitlements and revenues (even if there were serious disagreements on composition) was part of the DNA of the thing from the start."

And again, later on:

"There may have been big disagreements over rates and ratios — but that it was supposed to be replaced by entitlements and revenues of some form is not controversial."

Has the President backed away from any of that?
