In a southern Texas county, the effort to identify bodies of Central American migrants is being led by an unexpected crew college students.
The Boston Globe reports that thousands of immigrants have died crossing the border since 1998. Hundreds have gone unidentified, and dozens were buried at Sacred Heart Burial Park in Brooks County, Texas. Due to limited funds and lack of a medical examiner, students are now exhuming the bodies.
According to the Globe, the only people trying to identify the bodies buried in Sacred Heart, with the countys permission, are about three dozen college students from Baylor University and the University of Indianapolis and their teachers.
