5 questions looming over President Biden at Thanksgiving

President Biden doesn’t have a lot to be politically grateful for this Thanksgiving.

His approval rating is mired around 39 percent. Worries about his age unnerve Democratic voters, as well as their Republican counterparts. The conflict in the Middle East is causing him trouble with parts of the Democratic base.

But Biden has been underestimated many times during his political career — not least in 2020, when many people wrote off his chances of even becoming the Democratic nominee.

His allies argue that the same pattern is reasserting itself, and that Biden will once again prove the doubters wrong.

As much of this polling data comes out, and the fact that his approval rating has remained around 40-42, and I see polls that have it as high as 45-46, I increasingly doubt their accuracy. I'd like to see that data across the board, identified by how many respondents are Democrats, Republicans, Independents, likely voters, and I would like to see the poll provide specific information as to what it is about him that is the issue, whether it really is his age, or the economy, or whether those are just guessed by pollsters.

And what I'd also like to know is if these people understand what the alternative would be.

And some important questions about the polling data. Who is underwriting it, and what is their reason for conducting a political poll.

The majority of my social connections are currently with Democrats or with more moderate independents. And while, yes, it may be anecdotal, I'm nor hearing anything in anywhere near the volume or scope that these polls make out when it comes to concerns about Biden. A few people talk about his age, that's really about it. What I am hearing, and seeing, among my conservative friends, is an increasing distrust of Trump and an increasing frustration over the fact that they their chances of winning at any level are being frittered away. They are far more alarmed at the election results we've seen over the past two years than it seems Democrats are excited about them.
