This Biden Age Conversation Is Really Getting Old

- Daily Kos, Sept. 12, 2023. - Edited. - Excerpts - 🇺🇲

There has been a lot of talk about the Biden age issue lately. Pundits love going on and on about this – particularly erstwhile 538 polling guru Nate Silver, who has spent the last week saying things like “Biden is one McConnell moment away from losing to Trump.” Well, yeah, but so would any 45 year-old running for president. If a candidate has a brain freeze or serious meltdown of any kind, yes – shocker – they could lose their election. All this hand wringing even though Trump is close to the same age, is unfit (in so many ways), and says things that make one question his mental acuity pretty much every day.

What people rarely talk about is how it is Biden’s experience and judgment tempered by his long and productive life that have led to him being an incredibly effective president..

Joe Biden entered the White House with big ambitions, too. The moment he entered was even more perilous than the financial crisis Obama faced. Like Obama and Clinton, he had a trifecta, but his Congress was the most closely divided in modern history -- a 50/50 Senate with Vice-President Harris breaking the tie, and a 4 seat margin in the House. But because of his age and experience, Joe Biden had far more success in getting things done than any president in modern history. After 2 years in office, President Biden's legislative and executive action track record engendered a debate among historians: was it the most sweeping and transformative administration in 60 years or in 90?

Biden and the Democratic trifecta got more than 80% of Americans immunized from COVID despite the worst public health disinformation campaign ever. 🥼

They revived our economy from the depths of the COVID recession faster than any other major country, got Americans much needed money to keep them going in the hardest times, & saved state and local governments from having to make massive cuts in police, fire, and desperately needed public services. They delivered the 1st gun safety bill in over 30 years. They delivered the biggest infrastructure bill since the interstate highway system was built in the 1950s. They revitalized American manufacturing with Buy in America policies, the CHIPs Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act. They passed legislation to force Big Pharma to negotiate on drug prices & bring the cost of insulin down right away.

They made the biggest investment any country has ever made in clean energy. The 4 trillion dollars in investments in the American economy and American people will transform the economy for generations to come.. People age vastly differently from each other. We all know plenty of older folks who are still going strong, tough as nails, getting great things done deep into their 80s and 90s. I’m weary to the bone from hearing people talk about how he’s too old. Yeah, he’s 80. He walks a little more slowly than he used to, he’s got gray hair and wrinkles. And in terms of the great things he got done, he kicked the ass of every other president in modern times...🏋?♂️

... everyone knows Biden is old. Trump is old, too... Kamala is younger, and she can pick Pete as her VP, if anything happens. Problem solved! Plus, there is a whole administration of younger people... and veterans, too! I'm not worried about Biden's age.

His smile is so engaging. I'd love to meet him and his wife. They seem so happy and so in love with each other. Also, unlike the orange blobfather and his mail-order bride.

Represented the best interests of our country in an exceptional way and then, at the end of the day, continued to answer questions from the press even after the press conference had concluded!

Trump couldn't have done half of what Biden did in the last week!

qualities as a statesman. What an experienced and respected president to have representing America, I can't imagine things otherwise. Especially in these serious times I'm very proud of him, his administration and truly grateful for his leadership. Forward to 2024!

Remind them that Jimmy Carter is going to be 99 soon. If he had ran nearly twenty years ago he would have been more than capable.

..was going to start a new thread on the age thing but searched out this one so...

It would be nice if Joe was 60 but then he might not be the Joe he's been, since taking office at 78ish. He accomplished more than anyone thought possible since taking office and will likely accomplish even more in a second term. And as an eight year vice-president, he got a lot of 'presidential' experience working with, not under, Obama. And he spent 4 decades as a Senator which is good experience for the Presidential office.

But the age thing is subjective opinion based around younger voters wanting younger presidential candidates and is what the polls are actually saying. It doesn't mean they'll vote for a hypothetical younger Republican nominee should there be one. And of course, if Trump is the nominee, the age factor will be moot...

Even if Trump isn't the Republican nominee, someone like Trump will be the nominee and democrats will still vote for Joe or whomever is the Democratic nominee.

If all the people who want to vote, are allowed to vote and if they actually vote and have their votes counted, the next President will be a Democrat.
