Neighborhood Watchman Who Killed Trayvon Martin Ignored Neighborhood Watch Guidelines

George Zimmerman, the self-appointed neighborhood watchman who shot and killed Trayvon Martin, an unarmed 17-year-old Florida high school student, last month blatantly violated major principles of the Neighborhood Watch manual, ABC News has learned.

The manual, from the National Neighborhood Watch Program, states: "It should be emphasized to members that they do not possess police powers, and they shall not carry weapons or pursue vehicles. They should also be cautioned to alert police or deputies when encountering strange activity. Members should never confront suspicious persons who could be armed and dangerous."[b/]

Yet Zimmerman, who claimed self-defense in shooting Martin, made a nonemergency call to police and pursued him anyway before fatally shooting the teenager on Feb. 26.

The Sanford, Fla., Police Department, relenting to massive public pressure, released parts of these 911 tapes pertaining to the shooting

I knew a couple of fools like that in high school. Creepy kids with authority complexes and huge chips on their shoulders. All of them wanted to be cops but none of them could make the grade even though the standards were pretty low back in the day. So they settled for becoming mall security guards or night watchmen and they were still the objects of ridicule. But at least they got to wear a uniform and maybe even push around the guys who made fun of them in high school or better yet the girls who snickered at them.

Well, so long as there were guidelines.

I guess when you're a neighborhood watch person, you can exercise any racist tendencies you have, and just blow someone away. Unless, of course, it's against the "guidelines."

This is MURDER, pure and simple. He targeted the guy because he was black. There is not a doubt in my mind.

That said, I'm sure they won't be able to convict him under racism charges, even though it's pretty obvious.

won't be worth much, even if they should win a damages suit.

On the other hand, they make things pretty miserable for him.

That alone might be worth it.

That Zimmerman acknowledges the rules and protocols for the volunteer appointed Neighborhood Watch assignment. Since he went rogue ...this should help the case against him.
