Vegetable Gardens from 8 Countries
Living sustainably - to live within our means w/o jeopardizing future generations- involves producing locally. It takes about 1/10 of an acre to grow food for a family of four. Here are 8 examples from around the world, many with videos to illustrate each example. Some of the examples include terraced paddies from China; cassava grown in Mali, one of the poorest countries in the world; Lubjana, Slovenia's green Saturday markets; allotment gardens in Geneva, Switzerland; free private plots of land for gardens in Russia; Havana, Cuba's gardens grown fossil fuel free; Idaho's inter-generational gardens; and last but not least Belo Horizonte, Brazil's agriculture program that requires schools to source 30% of their food from local growers. - etc., etc.
