Dog Seamus ‘Loved’ Trips Atop Family Car, Says Ann Romney

Seamus, Mitt Romneys Irish setter who traveled with his young family strapped to the roof of their station wagon, loved those trips, despite once getting ill, Ann Romney told ABCs Diane Sawyer in an exclusive interview. Seamus 1983 trip from Boston to a summer cottage in Ontario, Canada, inside a dog carrier lashed atop the familys Chevrolet, has become a regular barb in Romneys side and is routinely used by his critics to paint him as uncaring.
Mitt Romney told Sawyer that the Seamus attacks were the most wounding of the campaign so far, but Anne Romney insisted the dog loved traveling that way and looked forward to trips. The dog loved it, Ann Romney said. He would see that crate and, you know, he would, like, go crazy because he was going with us on vacation. It was to me a kinder thing to bring him along than to leave him in the kennel for two weeks.
Adding to the lefts narrative that Romney had little compassion for the animal is a detail from the 1983 trip that Ann Romney confirmed to Sawyer. The dog became sick, defecating all over itself and the windshield of the car, leading Romney to hose them both off before they continued on the drive to Canada. Once, he we traveled all the time and he ate the turkey on the counter. I mean, he had the runs, Ann Romney said, laughing as she explained how the dog got diarrhea.

Well, now we know Ann Romney is clueless and a liar (yeah right, Seamus "loved" it, each and every time). Same old Mitt though: I'm running for office for Pete's sake, of course I wouldn't put the dog on the roof again!

"Would you [strap dog to roof] again?" "MITT ROMNEY: Certainly not with the attention it's received."

Ann Romneys Birthday Party Host: Fred Malek, Dog-Cooking Jew Counter

Fred Malek is also part of a group of men who were arrested after killing and barbecuing a dog in a city park in Peoria, IL in 1959.
Malek and his buddies were reportedly drunk and covered in blood when police found them. Animal-cruelty charges were eventually dropped against Malek

(9,070 posts)...who cares if the dog wanted to go on the trip or not!?!? What kind of poor judgement would put the dog on top of the station wagon for a 12 hour trip??? If she went along with that stupidity, there's no hope!
There's a hint for the Romney's...how common is it to see setter size dogs in carriers on the top of station wagons??

Do they not understand why even convertible cars have windshields?

(2,749 posts)It was abuse and they are complete morons to keep defending what they did as something that made the dog happy. Why didn't they just admit they shouldn't have done it, they wouldn't do it again under any circumstances and this would have gone away a long time ago? They are just another example of dumb, rich people who are utterly disconnected from the real world and lack empathy for even a poor dog they were responsible for. I really dislike these people.

hamsterjill
(15,220 posts)And it's SO typical of an animal abuser to say the animal "liked it". To me, it is very telling of how the Romneys view other living, breathing creatures - including the 2-legged ones that they view as "beneath them".
I'd love to fit a crate on top of a car which was big enough for Mitt and Ann, put them in it and take them for a ride and see if *they* liked it!

(2,749 posts)I'm quite sure they were already rich back when this happened, so why would they even have to consider putting any pet of theirs in a kennel while on vacation? They felt the only option was to put the poor dog on top of the fucking car? Haven't these rich people ever heard of a dog sitter? Hell now days even not-rich people hire someone just to look after their animals while they are away. That woman is as clueless as her dumbass husband.

(382 posts)that needed to be kept in the car so the dog had to be stored outside the car?
When I was a kid, my family took camping vacations every summer for 4 to 6 weeks each. We traveled to all 48 contiguous US states and Canada.
There were five of us kids, just like the Romneys. We had two dogs. Usually we sent the dogs to a wonderful kennel near home. Sometimes we took the dogs with us. In one station wagon we had two adults, five kids, and two dogs (miniature poodles). Three people in the front seat, four kids across the back seat. This was in the days before seatbelts, so you couldn't do that now. Most cars today don't have a bench seat in front, however, there are now third-row seats.
Food, clothing, and dogs in the back (although the dogs managed to be in laps quite a bit). We used a car-top carrier for the tents, sleeping bags, etc. My folks were obviously very efficient packers, and everything was organized.
If we needed more room, we pulled a small trailer for equipment. The dogs would never have been "stored" outside the car.
I find the Romneys' attempted justification of their behavior disgusting. They could clearly afford to own or rent an appropriately sized vehicle for their vacations.

(4,056 posts)and I can tell you, that was the most neurotic, high-strung dog I ever took care of! I loved her so much, but honestly, she was kind of a diva, needing extra finesse and reassurance--as well as LOTS of attention.
And I can tell you, she would NOT have loved being tied on top of the car. And I would never have let my father do it (not that my dad ever would--he is an animal lover and would never be so heartless!) I would have refused to go on vacation if my family had made that rule!
But the sickest thing--and the RMoney's in a nutshell--is that they had their Louis Vuitton luggage with them, and they put that in the BACK SEAT!!!! So prestige material things over any live being. That's their MO!!!!!
Bastards!!

(2,900 posts)And I love being put in a crate and tied to the top of a wagon and whizzing down a freeway at 70 miles per hour! I love losing my job and pension so Mr. Mittens can be rich! At least I think I do. I'll have to check today's talking points.
