[Cdn.] Federal government loses appeal to stop medical marijuana patients from growing pot at home

Source: CBC News

The federal government has lost its latest attempt to prevent medical marijuana patients from growing pot at home.

New rules were introduced earlier this year that prohibited home growing and instead shifted production to commercial operations, but a group of patients is challenging that regime.

Those patients won a court injunction earlier this year, allowing them to continue growing their own marijuana at least until their case is decided next year.

The government appealed, but the patients' lawyer, Kirk Tousaw, says the Federal Court of Appeal has upheld the injunction.

Why would the Candian Federal government make such a legal challenge?

For years and years during absolute prohibition, if you needed marijuana, you had two options: you could buy it off the street and who knows what you got, possibly sprayed with PCP or something else; or you could grow it yourself. Now that it is moving to being accepted for various medicinal uses, the government decides to make a law forcing you to get it "off the street", but this time the "commercial" street.

Same arguments likely apply, who knows what it's been laced with by the "commercial" sector, or how it was grown and fertilized, maybe it would be genetically modified. Why would any government seek to remove patients abilities to grow it themselves?

Perhaps government does not mean well towards their humans. Perhaps we're all just chattel.

It's mildly interesting that folks say rapists are interested in "power" and "control", that is their underlying motive.

I'm glad the Canadian courts saw through it.

They like revenue streams that are easy to regulate and lucrative, like rent.

So the government will always prefer that you pay for things as opposed to producing it yourself or bartering with someone else, or cash. It prefers electronic transactions too, because those all get reported.

...of 'legal cannabis' is the inalienable right to grow your own medicine. Nobody can argue against this. Unless, of course, you live in a PHARMOCRACY.

You know what that is, right?

First they can control the safety of this product from any pesticides… and secondly they can most likely keep the cost down.

I can't wait for the next Federal Election: Will Trudeau resolve this issue once and for all?
