RNC chair: ‘I’ll double down’ on comparing women to caterpillars

RNC chair: ‘I’ll double down’ on comparing women to caterpillars
By David Edwards
Wednesday, April 11, 2012 13:54 EDT

The chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC) on Wednesday refused to “walk back” claims that the Republican “war on women” was as fictional as a “war on caterpillars.”

In a interview that last week, Bloomberg TV’s Al Hunt asked RNC Chairman Reince Priebus how big of a problem it was for Republicans that recent polls showed President Barack Obama with a 2-1 lead among female voters in battleground states.

~snip~
On Wednesday, MSNBC host Thomas Roberts gave Priebus a chance to revise his remarks.

“I’m not going to walk back,” the RNC chairman insisted. “I’ll double down on it. This war on women is a fiction that the Democrats have created. And the real war on women is the war that this president has put forward on the American people by not following through on his promises, by having women disproportionately effected by the Obama economy.”

Even if we accept that Obama has been bad for women economically (which I don't), that has nothing to do with the contraception-banning, slut-shaming, violence-against-women act repealing war Rethugs are waging against women.

Priebus is setting up a false dichotomy - us ladies can either have jobs or reproductive rights, but not both.

As seen on Rachel Maddow's show the other night.

But I don't know why she finds McConnell's statements baffling. Or why he never consulted the female Repug Senators before announcing what he thinks they think. He obviously sees no "war on women" because, "look, some of my co-workers and best friends are women". He thinks that it is oh so generous that the GOP allows women to become Senators!

Lame. Shallow. Stupid. Misogynistic. It's Mitch!

I think it's something they teach in "Republican Rhetoric 101" (right after the section on "how to be everybody's beer buddy&quot . No matter what you said, no matter how horrible it sounds in retrospect, no matter how bad the response, NEVER apologize (half-assed non-apologies sometimes excepted if the uproar threatens to distract from lowering taxes on the wealthy), never retract, never back down, because people value consistency - "taking a stand and sticking to it" - above all else.

Of course, often what they see as consistency; as sticking to their guns, they rest of us see as being inflexible and closed minded.

Consistency is not a virtue when you're consistently an assclown.

Why are they in my bedroom all the time? They're like priggish voyeurs. They don't want me telling them how to run their business to protect the environment and children's health, but I should accept them regulating my choice of contraception.

I think it's called hypocrisy, and Republicans should go mind their own GD business!

Silkworms are caterpillars that have been held captive and exploited for at least five thousand years. They are treated like property, they produce things of value far in excess of any return they get and someone else takes the credit for it, their reproductive cycle is totally controlled, they never stop working and they never leave their factory walls--exactly as Republicans wish to treat American women.

But silkworms also have better health care than American women have, so I guess any comparison has to stop there.

Priebus was so flustered and defensive that at one point he started to accuse Roberts of holding specific positions because of the questions he asked, at one point claiming that Robert's supports abortion.

He was unhinged.
