Pentagon weighs more troops to Iraq

The Pentagon is considering sending about 300 more troops to Iraq to enhance security for State Department facilities in Baghdad, a U.S. official told POLITICO Wednesday, bringing the total number of uniformed Americans there to about 1,000.
A decision is not imminent, the official said, as Defense Department leaders are waiting on a formal request for the additional forces.
If one came, it seems likely the U.S. Central Command would send more troops to help secure the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad as well as other American facilities, including those at the airport.

(22,000 posts)Things are bad there and the Iraqis need to stop fighting each other and come up with solutions. Personally I wish we had never gotten into this mess in the first place.
