2 Solar Installers Sue State of Arizona For Imposing Industry-Crippling Property Tax
Source: EcoWatch
Two solar panel installers filed a lawsuit against the Arizona Department of Revenue (ADOR) this week charging that the state is illegally imposing a property tax on residents who lease solar energy systems.
In April 2013, ADOR reviewed a 2009 law exempting property owners from an additional solar property tax so long as they own the panels on their home or business. Panel lessees shouldnt be granted the same tax break, ADOR ruled. Now, SolarCity and Sunrun believe the departments review of the law is not only illegal but crippling to the industrys growth in Arizona.
This would absolutely be the end for solar in Arizona, Bryan Miller, Sunruns vice president of public policy and power markets, told the Phoenix Business Journal. It would burden those solar owners with a large tax increase that they were promised would never happen by top policy makers.

SolarCity was founded in July 2006 by brothers Peter and Lyndon Rive,[4] based on a suggestion for a solar company concept from their cousin, Elon Musk, who is the chairman and helped start the company.

(1,893 posts)... And you get to know what home improvement companies are notty or nice... Solarcity is a marketing company, they will make you feel real good about your decision, just like the marketing window company that over charges $7grand for vinyl windows will make you 'feel' good.
Google them, they are very smart folks...they figured out how to over charge consumers and the federal gov at the same time

(3,911 posts)As for the federal investigation, Sen. Sessions is a Republican who is backed by the oil and gas industry. His investigation doesn't seem to be anything more than another dog-and-pony show.
Got anything else? Your "I used to work for a home and garden show, solarcity one of our exhibitors" just doesn't cut it as anything but self-serving tripe.

(2,122 posts)Their leasing prices are quite competitive, and I have worked with the ZEP racking system that SC just purchased (to keep it out of our hands no less), and it's a top-notch product. I just do a better job designing systems in our shared market.

(2,674 posts)They are trying to get laws passed to make owners of solar systems pay an extra tax or charge to the electric companies. They and their dark money organizations are giving political contributions to members of state legislatures to try to get these laws passed. Remember Koch Industries is deeply involved in providing coal to power plants, this is where they got most of their money. I read that they are running into trouble in their home state of Kansas in trying to get these laws passed.
