Turkey blocks access to YouTube after leaked recordings of key security meeting

Less than a week after a notorious ban on Twitter went into effect, the Turkish government blocked access to YouTube on March 27. The ban was ordered hours after leaked recordings of a key security meeting were published on the video sharing website.

Turkey's Telecommunication Directorate (TİB) has used its new authority for the first time by blocking Youtube without a court order.

"After technical analysis and legal consideration based on the Law Nr. 5651, ADMINISTRATION MEASURE has been taken for this website (Youtube.com) according to Decision Nr. 490.05.01.2014.-48125 dated 27/03/2014 of Telekomünikasyon İletişim Başkanlığı," the notice on TİB's website reads.

The parliament had passed Feb. 6 a much-debated Internet bill, amid concerns raised by the European Union as well as local NGOs and opposition parties. “The regulation that has been approved by the General Assembly is giving unseen authorities to the TİB,” the Turkish Journalists Association criticized the Law Nr. 5651, which TİB based its decision on in today's YouTube blocking.

And I assume Erdogan is gambling that these bans may piss off people who don't support him anyway but that his real voter base is the people out in the boondocks who don't use social media and will take him at his word that he's protection the nation from sinister foreign influences and Jewish conspiracies.

The real question, of course, is whether he can keep a lid on the massive corruption scandal that these leaks are revealing. And that seems unlikely.

Here Is The YouTube "False Flag War With Syria" Clip That Erdogan Wanted Banned

As we noted here, Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan had blocked Twitter access to his nation ahead of what was rumored to be a "spectacular" leak before this weekend's elections. Then this morning, amid a mad scramble, he reportedly (despite the nation's court ruling the bans illegal) blocked YouTube access. However, by the magic of the interwebs, we have the 'leaked' clip and it is clear why he wanted it blocked/banned. As the rough translation explains, it purports to be a conversation between key Turkish military and political leaders discussing what appears to be a false flag attack to launch war with Syria.

"False flag" events (such as false "leaks&quot can also be created to support internal shifts in policy...in this case perhaps to justify the closure of social websites.
Also, it seems to me that just because something is called "a leak", that information is also possibly deliberately aired
to create misinformation. So the "leaked" information always has the possibility of being a tool of misinformation in the guise of a "leak" from some alleged "enemy", when in fact it was generated from inside the government.

Not saying that is the case here, only that "leaks" need to be scrutinized more rather than assuming they are always 'real'.

Ahmet Davutoğlu: OK, but we're gonna have to prepare somehow. To avoid any shorts on regarding international law. I just realised when I was talking to the president (Abdullah Gül), if the Turkish tanks go in there, it means we're in there in any case, right?

Yaşar Güler: It means we're in, yes.

Ahmet Davutoğlu: Yeah, but there's a difference between going in with aircraft and going in with tanks...

...

Hakan Fidan: Second after it happens, it'll cause a great internal commotion (several bombing events is bound to happen within). The border is not under control...

Feridun Sinirlioğlu:I mean, yes, the bombings are of course going to happen. But I remember our talk from 3 years ago...

10. So a NATO member country is caught planning a false flag war and headlines are "Youtube Blocked"?
Fri Mar 28, 2014, 05:19 PM

So a NATO member country is caught planning a false flag war, by instigating a fake "Syrian" attack giving NATO a pretext to jump in, and the news story reported in the mainstream western press is Turkey's ban on YouTube?

Reuters seems to be the only Western outlet out there with any decency. The UK Guardian is totally compromised. To quote Julian Assange "The Guardian, which is the UK establishment's preferred attack dog on the former Soviet".

"They even leaked a national security meeting," Erdogan said at a campaign rally. "This is villainous, this is dishonesty ... Who are you serving by doing audio surveillance of such an important meeting?"

...

"NATIONAL SECURITY ISSUE"

Turkey threatened two weeks ago to retaliate for any attack on the tomb following clashes between militants of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), an al Qaeda breakaway group, and rival rebel groups in the area, east of Aleppo near the Turkish border.

"An operation against ISIL has international legitimacy. We will define it as al Qaeda. There are no issues on the al Qaeda framework. When it comes to the Suleyman Shah tomb, it's about the protection of national soil," a voice presented as that of foreign ministry undersecretary Feridun Sinirlioglu says.

When the discussion turns to the need to justify such an operation, the voice purportedly of Fidan says: "Now look, my commander, if there is to be justification, the justification is, I send four men to the other side. I get them to fire eight missiles into empty land. That's not a problem. Justification can be created."

http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/03/27/us-syria-crisis-turkey-idUSBREA2Q17420140327

Hakan Fidan: “I’ll send 4 men from Syria, if that’s what it takes. I’ll make up a cause of war by ordering a missile attack on Turkey; we can also prepare an attack on Suleiman Shah Tomb if necessary.”

Feridun Sinirlioğlu: “Our national security has become a common, cheap domestic policy outfit.”

Yaşar Güler: “It’s a direct cause of war. I mean, what we’re going to do is a direct cause of war.”

...

Feridun Sinirlioğlu: But if we decide on an operation in there, it should create a shocking effect. I mean, if we are going to do so. I don’t know what we’re going to do, but regardless of what we decide, I don’t think it’d be appropriate to notify anyone beforehand.

...

Feridun Sinirlioğlu: That’s what I told back there. For one thing, the situation is different. An operation on ISIL has solid ground on international law. We’re going to portray this is Al-Qaeda, there’s no distress there if it’s a matter regarding Al-Qaeda. And if it comes to defending Suleiman Shah Tomb, that’s a matter of protecting our land.

Yaşar Güler: We don’t have any problems with that.

Hakan Fidan: Second after it happens, it’ll cause a great internal commotion (several bombing events is bound to happen within). The border is not under control…

Feridun Sinirlioğlu: I mean, yes, the bombings are of course going to happen. But I remember our talk from 3 years ago…

Yaşar Güler: Mr. Fidan should urgently receive back-up and we need to help him supply guns and ammo to rebels.

I was very angry about that at the time because it showed a concerted effort by the Western media to keep people in the dark so the war propaganda can get a better foothold. It shines a lot of light on the recent frenzied war against RT.

I couldn't help but think of your example when I read this and googled for more information.

On a much brighter note, these leaks are either coming from inside the intelligence community from people who didn't sign up for this dishonesty, or there's new type of cyber battleground opening up and the NSA and GCHQ goons are totally clueless about identifying it and stopping it.

Snowden said he wasn't alone.

Someone slipped those files to Feinstein.

Nuland, Ashton and now this. Bring it on.

You'll probably never know what's really going on, there a lot of theories floating around. One of them is that other US intelligence agencies are pissed at the NSA for knowing too much.

And regarding RT, Hillary mentioned in 2011 that the US had to get back into the propaganda game

The US is losing the global information war, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton declared while appearing before a congressional committee to ask for extra funds to spread US propaganda through new media.

Clinton said existing private channels are not good enough to handle the job, naming as rivals Al Jazeera, China's CCTV and RT – which she watches, she added.

Clinton was defending her department’s budget in front of the House’s Committee on Foreign Affairs on Wednesday.

Clinton said the US should step up its propaganda effort and get back “in the game” of doing “what we do best.”

Of course it's losing out. Check this out

BBC: "Earlier, what appeared to be a leaked audio recording of Turkish officials discussing Syria appeared on YouTube.

It relates to a discussion of possible military operations in Syria, which was apparently attended by Turkey's intelligence chief, its foreign minister and the deputy head of the armed forces."

The Independent:"YouTube has been blocked in Turkey after alleged leaks of high-level security talks regarding Syria were uploaded to the site."

Channel 4: "YouTube was blocked on Thursday after an anonymous account posted what it presented as a recording of intelligence chief Hakan Fidan discussing possible military operations in Syria with Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, Deputy Chief of Military Staff Yasar Guler, and others."

Daily Mail: "Block comes after leaked audio seems to record Turkish officials discussing Syria"

CNN: "The Turkish government said its YouTube block came as a response to the leak of a conversation between top government officials purportedly discussing the possibility of going to war with neighboring Syria."

and finally some truth

Reuters: "When the discussion turns to the need to justify such an operation, the voice purportedly of Fidan says: "Now look, my commander, if there is to be justification, the justification is, I send four men to the other side. I get them to fire eight missiles into empty land. That's not a problem. Justification can be created."

Then the whole story and transcript

RT: YouTube ban: How Turkish officials conspired to stage Syria attack to provoke war

“I'll make up a cause of war by ordering a missile attack on Turkey.” This leaked conversation is coming back to haunt the highest echelons of the Turkish government as it plans a provocation in Syria, while scrambling to contain social media internally.

The leaked audiotapes that reveal Turkey’s highest ministers staging an anti-Assad military intervention in Syria, have already caused YouTube to be shut down in the country, as well as leading to fevered accusations of treachery and betrayal of Turkey’s political interests – “a declaration of war,” as Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu put it.

This is of course after intelligence chief Hakan Fidan suggested seizing the opportunity to secure Turkish intervention in the Syrian conflict - a war that has already claimed 140,000 lives, and counting. In the conversation, Davutoğlu is heard saying that Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan sees any attack as an "opportunity" to increase troop presence in Syria, where it has staunchly supported the anti-Assad rebels.

Below is a transcript of that conversation in full. The video can be found below.

Brzezinski? Thanks but not thanks. I read "The Grand Chessboard" and it's a detailed blueprint for PNAC so he can go to hell. I'll listen to your other video with interest tonight. Thanks for providing it.
