Reid says GOP may have helped Russia annex Crimea
By Associated Press, Updated: Monday, March 24, 3:00 PM
WASHINGTON Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says Republicans may have helped Russia annex Ukraines Crimean Peninsula.
The surprising accusation came ahead of a Monday test vote on a Russia sanctions and Ukraine aid bill that Republicans blocked before Congress left for recess two weeks ago.
Since, Crimea seceded and Russian lawmakers annexed the territory.
Reid said, quoting, Its impossible to know whether events would have unfolded differently if the United States had responded to Russian aggression with a strong, unified voice.

(12,461 posts)Obama didn't respond with that cowboy swagger and a ah shucks "bring em on" like Bush did, but they sure love Putin for it. And Obama hasn't felt like a man since..They hate Obama so much they declared him the loser of some giant Prick-waving contest.
It's Putin who is making the same mistake as Bush made, not Obama.

(30,058 posts)We can point to Congress taking too long to act. If we had aggression displayed and need to declare action Congress would be out of session and would not be able to declare war. Congress should be willing to work sometimes.

Plus, they always have to wait to see what Obama does so they can retroactively call it "the wrong thing to do."
Funny thing is, none of them know what the right thing to do is. In this or ANY situation.

world simply by virtue of its bloated military is the very definition of Imperialism.
No, the GOP Putin lovefest had nothing to do with it, the long march of time and local politics did.

(14,176 posts)I'm referring to the "GOP Putin lovefest". Even if it only is for confusing the easily confused Fox News viewer. Too many times the Democrats have shied away from the "its too easy" jab. Thinking that the public will notice how gentlemanly they are behaving. Which is just as arrogant as the GOP in believing everything they criticize is The Most Important Thing in the World.
The GOP knows how to use any news item no matter how dead end.... BENGHAZI! .... and milk it to death. The Dems could learn to at the very least use whatever falls in their laps. They should be screaming about how the GOP was propping up Putin for weeks, as the manly man of men. How great a leader he is compared to "mom jeans" Obama. And then say how this probably emboldened Putin to strike. (Yes we know its bullshit, but a lot of the lame stream media (thanks Sarah!) watchers don't know that.)

(8,362 posts)Russia's armed intervention in the Crimea undoubtedly illustrates President Putin's ruthless determination to get his way in Ukraine. But less attention has been paid to the role of the United States in interfering in Ukrainian politics and civil society. Both powers are motivated by the desire to ensure that a geostrategically pivotal country with respect to control of critical energy pipeline routes remains in their own sphere of influence.
Much has been made of the reported leak of the recording of an alleged private telephone conversation between US assistant secretary of state Victoria Nuland and US ambassador to Kiev Geoffrey Pyatt. While the focus has been on Nuland's rude language, which has already elicited US apologies, the more important context of this language concerns the US role in liaising with Ukrainian opposition parties with a view, it seems, to manipulate the orientation of the Ukrainian government in accordance with US interests.
Rather than leaving the future of Ukrainian politics "up to the Ukrainian people" as claimed in official announcements, the conversation suggests active US government interference to favour certain opposition leaders:

-The Sign of Four
Chapter 1: "The Science of Deduction"
"In solving a problem of this sort, the grand thing is to be able to reason backwards. That is a very useful accomplishment, and a very easy one, but people do not practise it much. In the every-day affairs of life it is more useful to reason forwards, and so the other comes to be neglected. There are fifty who can reason synthetically for one who can reason analytically...Let me see if I can make it clearer. Most people, if you describe a train of events to them, will tell you what the result would be. They can put those events together in their minds, and argue from them that something will come to pass. There are few people, however, who, if you told them a result, would be able to evolve from their own inner consciousness what the steps were which led up to that result. This power is what I mean when I talk of reasoning backwards, or analytically."
