McCain: Limbaugh’s Attacks Are ‘Totally Unacceptable,’ ‘Should Be Condemned By Everyone’
By Alex Seitz-Wald on Mar 5, 2012 at 10:00 am

In back-to-back TV appearances this morning, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) strongly condemned Rush Limabugh for his assault on Georgetown Law student Sandra Fluke. “His remarks are totally unacceptable. Totally and completely unacceptable. And there’s no place for it,” McCain said on CNN. “Those statements were unacceptable in every way and should be condemned by everyone,” he added on CBS. Watch it:

McCain did not reference the apology Limbaugh offered this weekend, but many — including at least two advertisers — have been unsatisfied with it, as the radio host expressed little contrition and used the venue to further his false attacks on Fluke.

Cardinal Timothy Dolan, who has been the most outspoken religious leader against President Obama’s new contraception mandate, which sparked this whole controversy, spoke out against Limbaugh yesterday, saying the conservative entertainer should not be so “pugnacious.” “Whatever we do, and however strongly we feel, we do it charitably, we do it civilly,” Dolan said. “We don’t judge the motives of other people.”

Meanwhile, Christine Todd Whitman, the former Republican governor of New Jersey and Bush EPA administrator, said Limbaugh’s statement was “hardly an apology,” and also criticized lawmakers in her own party. “What is more to the point, and an issue for Republicans, is holding a hearing on contraceptives without a woman on the panel.”

for at these very few (retired or non-candidate) GOoPers to realize this?

I think the George Will dig is getting to them. "They want to bomb Iran, but they're afraid of Rush Limbaugh."

That one's gotta hurt.

unlike the manipulative Santorum. I'm no fan of McCain but he does correct a nutjob who speaks in his presence.

this was said to frothy 3 inches away from his face and he chose to ignore it and in a statement later he said it wasn't up to him to correct people (paraphrasing). he is despicable. and he is catholic. I hate him more than any of the other pugs running.

but I don't think it was a real shining moment for him either as he said, (paraphrasing) "No, he's a good family man" as if Muslims aren't good family men.

I recall she paused, as though trying to remember a word (probably "Muslim&quot , but landed on "Arab."

In any case, it was one of the last flickers of integrity in McCain's long career that long ago was known for that very quality.

I'll give it to McCain, he is often willing to go against what the easy (and dirty) route would be in terms of public discourse. He dutifully shut down the woman who tried to call (at the time his rival) Pres. Obama a muslim and whatever, and the current candidates can't even muster up that kind of decency for our president. He is a little late on this but I think his voice will be missed.

... the reason these Old White Bulls want to keep women out of the military and chain them to the stove at home is to protect the little woman, right? So why does it take a week for some of them to find the balls to defend a woman after she has been viciously and gratuitously attacked in public? Did Rush inherit Hoover's files, or what?

“What is more to the point, and an issue for Republicans, is holding a hearing on contraceptives without a woman on the panel.”

THAT is the whole point and genesis of this. The hubris and gall of Issa to hold a hearing on something quite germane to women and women's health and have not one woman on the panel. How he has gotten away with this without so much as a stank side eye sent in his direction by the women of his party is unfathomable.
