George Will: Republican Leaders Are Afraid of Rush Limbaugh

ABC’s George Will told me Sunday on “This Week” that GOP leaders have steered clear of harshly denouncing Limbaugh’s comments because “Republican leaders are afraid of Rush Limbaugh.”

“[House Speaker John] Boehner comes out and says Rush’s language was inappropriate. Using the salad fork for your entrée, that’s inappropriate. Not this stuff,” Will said. “And it was depressing because what it indicates is that the Republican leaders are afraid of Rush Limbaugh. They want to bomb Iran, but they’re afraid of Rush Limbaugh.”

While President Obama has denounced Limbaugh’s comments as “reprehensible” and called Fluke to thank her for testifying, Republican leaders and GOP presidential candidates have used far milder language.

But they are afraid that having Limbaugh and his addled flock of drones turned against them will. For these people, the main uses for political power are its own continuation and the financial enrichment of themselves and their friends and allies. Anything that might put an end to that frightens them beyond anything else.

I had hoped Democratic Underground could rise above the nonsense of corporate funded media.

Clowns like Limbaugh only serve to distract the peasants from serious issues.

President Obama chose to not ignore the issue because he wants to win re-election. That says it all. Piercing and draining the Limbaugh boil will assist in the destruction of the despicable Republican Party. Why not go to a site that concentrates on other than American issues if you want to ignore the reality of politics in the U.S.A.?

I've never understood why.

Does he have dirt on all of them, as another poster has suggested? Or can he destroy a Republican politician just be attacking him or her on the air?

The way they kow tow to him -- avoiding criticism of him and immediately following his lead -- mystifies me.

For that matter, the same applies to Drudge.

While the rest of us talks to God Limbaugh thinks he is god. He must have had an overdose of himself. It is a sad moment when leaders of this great nation can not step up and tell Limbaugh he is out of line.
