Rush Limbaugh's Sandra Fluke comments "absurd," says Rick Santorum

Source: CBS

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum on Friday dismissed radio host Rush Limbaugh's disparaging remarks about student activist Sandra Fluke as "absurd."

"He's being absurd, but that's you know, an entertainer can be absurd," Santorum said on CNN. "He's in a very different business than I am."

They are all outraged that Santorum would say such nasty words about Rush, they are all 100% behind Rush and the thread is filled with misogyny that even makes Rush look tame by comparision.

As sick as their words are however I am glad this is coming out for all of America to see because this could seriously bring the downfall of the Republican Party. Everyone is talking about the huge impact this is having on women, but men are very impacted by this issue as well and the large majority of men want birth control easily available for their partner. Men and women alike are largely united on this issue and Rush is going to drag his party down at rapid pace because he is taking a stance that everyone except his tiny bubble finds repulsive.

"Absurd" is the best he can do?

Try obscene, degrading, anti-woman, disgusting, puerile, pathetic, hateful, hurtful...

"Absurd" makes it sound like he's doing comic theatre. How can anyone listen to that hateful screed and dismiss it as simply "absurd?"

Santorum is a coward, pure and simple. Either that, or (and I suppose this is just as likely) he secretly gets a chuckle out of Rush, secretly agrees with the idea that the best way to deal with "uppity" women is to try to shame and humiliate them.

Either way, this is an epic, epic fail.

What a cop out. The reality is that people like Ricky believe exactly what Rush said. I also love the "he's in a different business than I am" line. That just goes to show right there that Rick himself cannot use a word like "slut" in describing women, but mouthpieces like Rush should feel free in insulting minorities and women...After all, he's "just an entertainer".

This is nothing more than wink at the fundies and Rush's crack pot idiot listeners showing them he's on their side. Rick isn't fooling anyone.

His freedom to call women sluts is being violated. What kind of world do we live in that a rich entertainer with millions of followers can't call a woman a slut without people jumping on his ass. <sniff> This is just absolutely breaking my heart. I'll bet if I called a woman a slut, her boyfriend or husband or father would kick my ass, violating my freedom of speech.
What? You mean that's not how freedom of speech works? You mean BOTH sides get their say and everyone is free to make up their own minds?
The Dixie Chicks said that they were ashamed to come from the same state as GWB and the right stops buying their albums. They were defended by the left for speaking their minds and exercising their first amendment rights. The Right denounced them saying that while they have the right to speak their minds, they have to face the consequences of doing so.
Now the shoe is on the other foot. Rush made a personal insult against a person (which he technically can do, though he probably shouldn't have), and people jump on his ass. Suddenly, Rush is a victim? His rights are being violated?
Not only is this hypocrisy, but it's just plain stupid.

Santorum shot himself in the foot with his remarks about JFK. There's simply no way he's going to recover from that. Charles Krauthammer hit the nail on the head in his latest column.

Limbaugh is just an entertainer. He's an attention whore who understands his audience and panders to them. He doesn't care if a few advertisers leave; there will always be others to take their place. He doesn't set policy, he's not running for office.
