Teacher found dead outside Mass. high school; 14-year-old in custody

Source: NBC

A math teacher was found dead Wednesday in the woods outside her Massachusetts high school, and authorities said they would charge a 14-year-old student with murder.

The body of the teacher, identified as Colleen Ritzer, 24, was found just after midnight in the woods near Danvers High School, about a half-hour outside Boston. Blood was found in a second-floor bathroom at the school, authorities said.

Authorities said their murder investigation was connected to their search for a missing 14-year-old boy the day before, but they did not explicitly say that he was the juvenile charged in the killing.

They said the 14-year-old charged with murder would be arraigned later Wednesday. They did not discuss a motive, nor how the teacher was killed.

would that have been a "good day" for supporters of gun control legislation? Of course not.

Your comment is grotesquely offensive. And I say that as someone who would put his anti-gun credentials up against anyone here. (Among other things, I handled, on a pro bono basis, the incorporation as a non-profit, the organization "Handgun Control Inc" that later morphed in the Brady Campaign to End Gun Violence, served as an officer of the organization for a time, and continue to support it financially. I also am married to someone who was the victim of gun violence.

in the US is to try and find out why kids are killing each other rather than squabble over what they use. There's a very obvious problem there if a kid will take a box cutter to a teacher and then calmly go to the movies. I'm not saying guns are not a problem, but with attitudes like this nothing short of figuring out what has gone wrong will really do anything long lasting.

headline in all the news stories about the killing. Since a gun wasn't used, it took a lot of digging to find out how it happened. Sadly, the reasonable inference is that the media cares less about her murder than about scoring points as if the gun/anti-gun issue is a game.

On both sides.

The reason half of the country is red is because guys like Bloomberg run around screaming wolf every time something happens.

The reason you can not buy a box of .22 shells to shoot rats is because the NRA whipped up a panic and billions of rounds of every description stay on the shelves for all of 5 minutes before they are bought and hoarded.

In my county there are more murders done with knives, hands and hammers than guns.

Seizing all of the guns does nothing to address the phenomenon of why Cain killed Able ( I don't think he used a gun)

Law enforcement sources told ABC News there is surveillance video inside the high school that shows the student hauling Ritzer's body from the bathroom toward the woods in what appeared to be a recycle bin. The school is a new building and is equipped with 130 cameras, officials said.

The new ones are those half bubbles attached to the ceiling that can see every direction. This kid clearly knew he was going to get caught as he immediately went on the run. Dragging a recycling bin down the hallway and out into the woods is pretty suspicious, much more when the size and shape is that of a grown person.

If the state can prove premeditation, then I think they'd go for the longest possible sentence.
