Frankly, I'm relieved. I can call him a lot of names, but I can't call someone who wants to die a coward. Usually you're a coward if you're afraid to die.

In this case, were you expecting him to stay in and "fight the good fight?" Doesn't make sense to me.

Really, I could think of few other times where suicide was so well justified.

It appears to me that he was still in the in-take processing phase of the prison. That could be for mental health reasons or security evaluation. He would have had to be in protective custody the rest of his life given his crime and how public his name was.

I'm indifferent to the news. I think in a way his death might do harm to the victims especially given how soon it is after they were found and Castro was sentenced. Hopefully it won't.

Akron grandma recovering after being stabbed and robbed

A 65-year-old woman is recovering in the hospital after a vicious attack. Family members tell 19 Action News it looks like she'll be O.K.

Her family spent the day by her side while the suspect is still on the loose.

Glad she's recovering! Hope they catch the culprit soon...

I know this man was evil, and it's over, at least. Hopefully, those affected by this monster will gain closure knowing that he can never harm them again in any way.

His three victims have shown remarkable strength in their recoveries and I wish them all the best. Michelle Knight, particularly, for coming forward and facing him. Such brave young women!

That said, I believe that Castro was one of the few who KNEW he was a sicko, and perhaps this was his own way of ending any potential threat that he might harm again.

the prison guards for this POS hanging himself. I have read a couple of the news stories and so far, nothing has come out that would indicate the guards did anything to facilitate this hanging. He used bedsheets to hang himself. The guards were supposed to check on him every 30 minutes. They found him hanging at 9:20p but he was not pronounced dead until 10:52p at the Ohio State University Medical Center.

89. It's actually relatively easy to hang yourself
Thu Sep 5, 2013, 08:57 AM
Sep 2013

We have had an incident like that at the state psych hospital, max security unit. Use bedsheets, and can tie it to anything... even a door knob... and 'hang' yourself. It's actually asphyxiation instead of true 'hanging'. However, there are ways to hang yourself from a doorway or ceiling, even in a prison cell.

When I read the news, I noticed they were doing 30 minute 'staggered' checks on him. In our max unit, we do 15 minute checks to prevent this sort of thing from happening. 30 minutes is way too long to leave a prisoner like Castro alone.

I'm not thrilled with this news. I think he was a coward that took the easy way out, and should have spent the rest of his life in prison until he was a very old man. I only hope his victims are relieved that they will not have to deal with this case anymore, and get on to living their lives.
