De'Marquise Elkins hid a gun under sofa morning 13-month-old was fatally shot, witnesses say
Source: Florida Times-Union
After prosecutors showed the jury video of DeMarquise Elkins entering and leaving a neighbors apartment in the McIntyre Court housing project, they called upon two residents of the public housing complex to testify.
One resident, Danielle Williams, a lifelong friend of DeMarquise Elkins, his mother and his sister Sabrina Elkins, told the jury DeMarquise Elkins came to her apartment the morning of the murder and asked permission to hide his revolver under her sofa. That afternoon, Karimah Elkins and Sabrina Elkins arrived to retrieve it.
...
A longtime friend of Karimah Elkins, Willie Merrell, testified that he gave her and Sabrina Elkins a ride to a favorite fishing spot, a saltwater pond off U.S. 17 just north of Brunswick.

(68,868 posts)Anyhow, this one produced a bunch of idiocy on all sides, with a lot of people saying "Susan Smith!!!!" on one side and "the white Trayvon Martin" on the other when in fact it was always pretty clear this was a horrible crime that served no one's political agenda.

(421 posts)Not looking good at all.
I sure hope his attorney isn't still trying to pin it on the mother, that defense will surely fail.

(68,868 posts)with the facts of the case, but unlikely it will work on even one who's looked at the facts in the jury box.
But, their goose is pretty well cooked on this one, so that may be the only shot.

(421 posts)and as the days went by and more evidence emerged, I became more and more convinced that Elkins is guilty, even though he's presumed to be innocent until proven guilty.
Yes, I'm pretty sure their goose is pretty well cooked on this.

Is this sarcasm?
So are the baby's parents sharing their insurance payout with the Brunswick Police Department, Elkin's mom, aunt and sister, Danielle Williams, Willie Merrell, Dominique Lang, etc?

A friend of the Brunswick man on trial for the murder of a 13-month-old testified Monday the defendant asked her to hide his gun after the toddler was shot.
Danielle Williams said the firearm allegedly belonging to DeMarquise Elkins was picked up later that day by his mother. Karimah Elkins, on trial along with her son, is accused of lying to police and throwing the .22-caliber handgun used to shoot Antonio Santiago into a salt-water pond north of Brunswick.

Lang, 14 at the time, testified he heard Elkins count down from 5 as he pointed the gun in the direction of the babys stroller abnd shot him between the eyes. He was featured in a video re-enactment of the shooting prosecutors played for jurors on Friday.

WSAV's crime expert Gerry Long said there may be a reasonable explanation gunpowder residue was found on the dad.
"It's also possible that subsequent to the incident he had contact with the mother and there were some transfer and/or with the clothing of the child or the child themselves," said Long.
Of course the mother would have gunshot residue on her, she got shot at close range, and the forensics team found only a grain or two of gunshot residue on the father, which probably happened at the hospital when he hugged her, transferring the residue from her to him.
Police have completely ruled both parents out.
Oh, and your link, not to biased is it?
