Colbert stops show for mom
Stephen Colbert shut down his late-night comedy show this week for his ailing 91-year-old mother, sources close to the show said yesterday.
The actor caused a stir yesterday when he said only that he was canceling the shows due to unforeseen circumstances.
They are a very private family, said a source. Its not surprising that he did not want anyone to know what was going on.
Colbert, the youngest of 11 children, is very close to his mother, according to the source.

(16,207 posts)Here's to Stephen Colbert, who's not too much of a TV star to drop what he's doing for those he loves.

(46,040 posts)He's said that he first learned to be funny to try to cheer up his mother after his father and at least one of his siblings died in an accident.
Here's to a complete recovery for Mrs. Colbert.

(35,392 posts)I know of a second-hand acquaintance who had been unemployed since 2009.
Last year, he did get a job in his field (computer programming) ... but it was at a location which was near enough to get home every weekend, but not close enough to commute daily. This was his chance to get back into the field.
He moved there, paying for an apartment, while his wife stayed in their house while she went to her workplace. The option of both of them moving was not available, and he was kinda using the new job as a "stepping-stone".
As it happened, circumstances changed at the wife's workplace, which started to cause problems with the wife not being able to maintain the house AND work at the same time.
He decided that, for her sanity's sake, she should not give up her 25 years at her job just for his "chance", and he put in his resignation halfway through his probationary period, and returned to "home".
They are both good with the decision, and he is taking care of the home matters at this time.
He decided there were more important things in life ...
