Lt. Gov. Dewhurst & Atty. Gen. Greg Abbott Consider Charges Against Student Who Led Eyes of Texas
Source: Burnt Orange Report
Leigh Larson the leader and organizer for College Kids For Wendy also volunteered for Wendy Davis' most recent campaign, now she is becoming, like Martha Northington, one of the many faces of this movement. She has received a lot of plaudits for leading the "Eyes of Texas" in the Capitol Rotunda but now Lt. Governor David Dewhurst may have his eyes on her. She has received notice from an attorney, Lee Henderson with the ACLU, that the Lt. Governor and Attorney General Greg Abbott may be considering pressing charges on her for "disturbing the peace" and "inciting a riot"...

Incidentally, I though teabaggers were against govt. intervention? Intrusion and freedom and all that other crap... Hate govt. except when govt. leaders are homophobic, xenophobic, racists and anti-woman.
Then govt. is just dandy to them..

(118,334 posts)Unfortunately for Larson, Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst is not a fan of the University of Texas: he attended the University of Arizona
Hearing "The Eyes of Texas" apparently has rekindled Dewhurst's own long-dormant school pride, and he is now pushing the state to prosecute Larson for inciting a riot ...

The DooBoy is really starting to play with matches here. We surely must have an attorney or two here on DU who can advise us how to go about seeking indictment and prosecution for altering an official government document.
Preventing the people of Texas from sitting in their OWN gallery seats? Senators hiding out and then rushing in for a vote? What kinds of cowards are these? They're damn sure unworthy to claim the proud title of Texans! They're about to find out that real Texans tip their hat to no one.

That this rises to a Texas Jail Felony seems certain given the statutes (see below).
Reading posts and news following Sen. Wendy Davis' successful filibuster reveals a conspiracy led by Texas Lt. Gov. Dewhurst.
The obvious implication is the end of his political career. At the least, his resignation should be sought immediately.

(9,462 posts)carrying the message. I saw a tweet from someone who is in Texas and they had 500 volunteers on the ground today registering voters. When enough people get involved, the press won't be able to ignore it. Then we will see a change. I'm volunteering to help register voters. The challenge will be more than registering to vote, these are people who will need to be getting i.d.'s so i'm starting now.

Hispanics need to have their voices heard, loud and clear, on this issue and many others. Hoping for volunteers to reach all Texans and turn back the Koch brothers funded Tea Party at the ballot.
You are giving the whole nation hope. If Texas can sweep back the polluted tide of corporatism, anyone can.

(9,462 posts)and that is where i'll be registering voters. There is a town with a heavy Hispanic population i'll be participating in. I'm older and have gone back to school, so next summer I will be looking at going to a state where my volunteering will make a difference. My district is too gerrymandered for a democrat until 2020.

Dewhurst says hes prepared for the next attempt to derail the legislature. I expect some demonstrations, he said. Texas does have an open-meetings policy, but he can determine at least in the Senate, where he presides whether a threat to public safety exists. If visitors attempt another demonstration, Im going to clear the gallery. In lieu of access to the Senate, Dewhurst will set up a closed-circuit video feed to committee rooms to those interested in observing rather than demonstrating. Were all for openness and transparency, Dewhurst said, but if youre having a demonstration which is going to impede the legislature from moving forward, Im perfectly at ease with clearing the gallery with our state police.
Dewhurst plans to combat the media coverage with grassroots support on Twitter and other social media. He will ask pro-life supporters to use #Stand4Life hashtag while the Texas legislature is in session. He reviewed the possible timing of the bill, which has to start from scratch in both chambers because of the new special session, although the specific timing may prove somewhat different. Either way, Dewhurst pledges that he will pass the ban on late-term abortions and require abortionists to meet the same standards as all other ambulatory surgical centers meet in Texas. Im a strong believer in values.

Dear Honorable Greg:
I can barely find words to express the profound shock and dismay I felt upon learning that the Lieutenant Governor of the Great State of Texas plans to prosecute those who sing "The Eyes of Texas" as criminals.
I had forgiven the Lieutenant Governor for choosing the University of Arizona over the most excellent University of Texas when he was younger and less wise, because I believed we should overlook childish mistakes.
But it now seems clear that he has been unable to set aside his earlier unpatriotic allegiances and is intent on misusing his office to undermine everything that Bevo stands for.
If singing "The Eyes of Texas" is a crime, I too am a criminal!
Shame on the Lieutenant Governor!
Hook em, horns!
