BOGOTA – Eight people were dead and eight others missing on Friday after a flood and a mudslide struck communities in two separate regions of Colombia, authorities said.

The tragedies raised the number of deaths to 156 and to 38 the number of missing in the current rainy season, which started in September.

One person was killed when the Guachaca River burst its banks in a hamlet outside the Caribbean city of Santa Marta, the local emergency services coordinator, Armando Piñeres, told Efe.
