BREAKING: Dr. Ben Carson Will Not Address John Hopkins Commencement

Source: MSNBC

Johns Hopkins neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson told Andrea Mitchell Friday that he is prepared to refrain from speaking at the university’s School of Medicine commencement ceremony, after students and faculty petitioned over comments he made this week that were widely seen as anti-gay.

Carson told FOX News host Sean Hannity Tuesday, “My thoughts are that marriage is between a man and a woman. It’s a well-established, fundamental pillar of society and no group, be they gays, be they NAMBLA, be they people who believe in bestiality–it doesn’t matter what they are–they don’t get to change the definition.”

Carson’s comparison of gay relationships to pedophilia (NAMBLA stands for the North American Man/Boy Love Association) and bestiality has caused the pediatric neurosurgeon to fall from his perch as a Republican rising a star in recent days. Earlier this month, he drew a standing ovation at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), and just last month, he publicly slammed President Obama’s position on taxes, the deficit, and health care while addressing three thousand people at the National Prayer Breakfast. The president watched from the dais, just a few feet away. In 2008, former President George W. Bush presented Carson with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor.

Carson is the first surgeon to successfully separate conjoined twins,
he devised the procedure which was a breakthrough for conjoined cases.

There is a wonderful film that was made of his life titled "Gifted Hands".

Although I do not agree with anything he has said in the media regarding marriage equality - the film is awesome and I would recommend everyone to watch if they get the chance to do so.

Netflix.com has it available for streaming.

UPDATE: 4:08 p.m. -- Dennis O'Shea, executive director of media relations at Johns Hopkins University, said he had not heard of any change in commencement plans.

"Dr. Carson is a distinguished Johns Hopkins surgeon and scientist chosen to speak at the School of Medicine diploma ceremony because of his extraordinary accomplishments as a neurosurgeon and his many contributions as an advocate for education and children," O'Shea said in an email to The Huffington Post. "He was not asked to speak because of his personal political, religious or social views. His personal views are just that, his own. When he speaks about them, he is not speaking on behalf of Johns Hopkins."

and a few weeks ago, no one ever heard of him.

The republican/tea/libertarian party knows of him now

Which is his plan all along.

Do you think this was not planned by him?

Keep his name handy, because you will be hearing alot about him and remember kiddies,
the republicantealibertarian party doesn't care 2 spits about anything any one of us thinks on anything.

They already know we ain't voting for them.

I am surprised Chris Christie hasn't made a remark like this lately. After all, he and Ben are on the same side. And after all, CC also wants what Ben wants.
To be Jeb's #2 in 2016.

And remember, the more the other players play their part like this, the more Jeb comes off looking sane and well, that is how the stupid ones are going to nominate a Bush after saying it will never happen.

(and beward those that want to protest vote- tell me Carson is in any way, shape, or form,
the same as the worst democratic candidate.

To quote an old John Conlee song title, "Now they can't say it, anymore".

Drown out the "both parties are the same" fake protesters. For they would be happy with
Jeb/Carson.

He did not 'break the story himself' he fucked up on TV and got called out for it massively.
Again, the only people who think all publicity is good are people like yourself, who have never had any publicity at all and don't think it through very much. Claire McCaskill could point out that Akin's publicity did her great favors. Destroyed him. Helped her.
Spitzer, Larry Craig, Mark Foley,David Patraeus, how do you think they felt about the press they got? We could list names all day, in every country and in every era.

I had heard about him months ago, but no one was talking about him

Then this, the whole nation is talking about him.

He moved to the top tier and he did it on purpose.

But it matters little, as Hillary will be the Next President anyhow. Thank God for Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton being here in our hours of need.

All the other people you are referring to were IN office. That is the difference.
Carson has no accountability. He is NOT in office.

And he is not going for the gay vote, he is going for the conservative vote.
And he is not a teaparty person, just a regular conservative. Now he has gravitas for them.

It's like people that think W was stupid. W played them. No, W was not stupid.
No college grad is stupid. No president is stupid.

According to what I've read about him, he favors a flat tax based on the biblical tithe of 10%. He doesn't believe in evolution and in an article in the Adventist Review calls those who believe it unethical and immoral (in other words he's intolerant of opposing views to his own religious ones). He argues that there is no scientific evidence for evolution and that there are no transitional fossils that provide evidence for the evolution of humans from a common ancestor with other apes. He wants to end all government provided welfare, food stamps and public assistance and thinks that only religious charities should be relied upon for this: "Nobody is starving on the streets. We've always taken care of them. We take care of our own; we always have. It is not the government's responsibility." He wants to privatize medicare and create vouchers or health savings accounts. He told Neil Cavuto that he would run for office if God called on him to run. He's supposedly an avowed 7th Day Adventist who doesn't believe in dancing or seeing movies. From what I understand, Adventists believe in a literal interpretation of the bible that the universe was created in only six days, 6,000 years ago. He may win over the right wing extremists but he's an Ayn Randian with an added extreme religious dimension and I just don't see how he can be a viable national candidate.
