Ark. Senate Overrides Veto, 20 Week Abortion Ban Becomes Law

Source: KUAR

By a vote of 19-14, the Arkansas Senate Thursday voted to override Governor Mike Beebe’s veto of a bill that would ban most abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

The House had already voted to override the veto Wednesday, meaning the bill becomes law immediately.

The only exceptions to the 20 week abortion ban would be for cases of rape, incest and the health of the mother.

"It’s wonderful news," said Rose Mimms, executive director of Arkansas Right to Life, who was in the Senate Chamber for the vote.

6. 19-14? That's not two-thirds, even in Arkansas.

What's the point of the veto if a simple majority can override?

"That law takes effect immediately, so unborn children, 20 weeks and past are going to be protected in Arkansas," Mimms said.

So those "unborn children" conceived by rape or incest do not deserve protection? If protecting "unborn children" is truly their goal, why limit it in this way?

FWIW in case anyone here has any doubts or does not know me or my stance on abortion rights, I am totally against this crap and feel it is distraction from much larger issues. Just in case you might think I am supporting this.

I read about do not want exceptions for rape at all. No exceptions. "A woman can claim rape just to get abortions" or "why punish the child for the crimes of the father?"
They probably just add the exceptions to increase the likelyhood of the bill passing. Multiple posters I've read would love to punish a rape victim for getting an abortion.

Would love to punish a rape victim that gets an abortion. I've seen many posts that state they would prosecute for it, if they could.
Course, they would execute the rapist. "Kill the rapist. Save the baby."
