PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Olympic medalist figure skater Michelle Kwan and a grandson of the late U.S. Sen. Claiborne Pell have married in Rhode Island.
Kwan is a public policy envoy with the Department of State and the most decorated figure skater in American history. She won 43 championships, the silver medal at the 1998 Winter Olympics and bronze at the 2002 Games.
Pell works on the national security staff at the White House.

The wedding was attended by figure skating legends Dick Button, Brian Boitano and Dorothy Hamill. Other notables attending were Gov. Lincoln Chafee, Obama adviser Melody Barnes, Tim Shriver head of the Special Olympics. Sports journalists Phil Hersh of the Chicago Tribune and Christine Brennan attended and tweeted lots of great pix and tidbits about the wedding and reception. I especially loved this one captioned: Dick Button critiques wedding for Michelle Kwan and Clay Pell. If there had been a glitch, Russian judge to blame.

I have been a huge Kwan fan for many years and am thrilled for the Kween (as we skating fans call her). I think that there's a very good chance that either Michelle or her new hubby might someday be political figures.
