Source: WisTV.com
CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -
A teenager who says he is the son of a U.S. Senator, and grandson of a former Presidential candidate, was arrested Saturday night at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
William Hilton Paul, 19, was then transported and booked into the Mecklenburg County Jail.
Sources at the Mecklenburg Co. Sheriff's Office say he identified himself as the son of U.S. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky. Senator Paul's father is former Presidential candidate Ron Paul.
Paul was also charged with Disorderly Conduct and being Intoxicated and Disruptive.

(38,613 posts)Why the word "also" in there? Was he arrested for something else too? Kind of a poorly-written article.

(243 posts)The young man is simply acting as many young people do. I personally do not feel it should be a crime for a person of the age to serve in our military and vote to have a drink. He was disruptive? What teenager isn't or has not been. The only reason people un DU are making this a big deal is because of who his relatives may or not be. Do you have a teenage child? Would you post about your child if he / she did the same thing? People in glass houses should not throw stones. By the way, no matter what the charge, he is innocent until proven guilty.

My kids weren't teenage drunks, but then, they weren't raised in an atmosphere of privilege, either, like your precious little snowflake was.

(34,115 posts)Otherwise, his arrest would not have made national news.
If he'd been smart he wouldn't have made a scene at all, or once he got that far not made claims about who his father or grandfather are. He probably thought mentioning their names would be a "Get Out of Jail Free" card.

(4,950 posts)he will become a liberal and piss off his dad. I for one, hope he is the typical college student inciting major moral arguments along philosophical methods at every encounter-- it's exhausting. My kid is 20 and I'm seriously hoping his current libertarian bent hits the proverbial dialectic. He was a socialist 2 years ago.

He will grow - or not depend of what he become - libertarian habits is a illness hard to break - even grown ups who got hooked on this ideology have the habit on never really wake up to the reality before ages and ages have turned around.. You just have to be patient with him - as you was when he was a little kid - and just let him "make the mistakes he need to do" to understand that the world are not in any way the same as the libertarian world idea want it to be... If anything, just show him by your actions what real people is like - and let the ships fall as they may do... In most cases, kids tend to understand what really works and not - and grow up to be good persons after a while ..

(4,950 posts)I am certain life experience, education and his ever-evolving mind will take care of this-- he works a minimum wage job. My son is vey inquisitive. He certainly has strong views on gun control which don't jibe with the libertarian stand. He is also pro equal/civil rights. I don't know how libertarian he will be once pot is legalized. I think all college students try on different philosophies as they develop. I know I went through a short period of conservatism, at least I thought it was--more along the lines of Teddy Roosevelt though (conservation of natural resources, not hating people because they don't pray to a cross). I think I went through that because of my strong feelings about keeping my family intact as I grew up in divorced homes and believing that people often don't try hard enough to keep things together or have unrealistic expectations. But I became quickly disenamored with what came to be popular conservative thought and behavior and I didn't care for the meanness and reflexive attitudes.

The Charlotte Observer reported over the weekend that 19-year-old William Paul was charged with misdemeanor assault on a female by aggressive physical force. The paper had previously reported that he also was charged with underage drinking, disorderly conduct and being intoxicated and disruptive.
The newspaper quoted Lt. Shawn Crooks as saying all the charges against Paul were filed the day of the incident, Jan. 5.
