(29,876 posts)President Obama is sending a scaled back fiscal cliff measure to Capitol Hill today, CNN's Dana Bash is reporting citing two unidentified sources.
But that was news to some congressional Democrats. A senior Senate Democratic aide told the Alley that White House hasn't notified Democrats of the plan.
And that has left some Democrats scrambling to verify whether the news was indeed true.
Stay tuned.

(29,876 posts)A Republican senator said Obama told Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, that the president's plan would arrive on Thursday, and a Senate Democratic leadership member also said that was the approach being taken. Both sources spoke on condition of not being identified further.
The move would answer McConnell's call for the president or Senate Democrats to make the first move in the political standoff over how to prevent or soften automatic tax hikes and spending cuts of the fiscal cliff set to take effect in the new year -- just five days away.

(68,868 posts)Update: TPM has learned that reports that the White House is about to send an offer to Capitol Hill are not accurate, or at best an exaggerated read-out of GOP discussions with President Obama.
Update II: An aide to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) also tells TPM the reports are "not true."

(10,857 posts)So that people like april are deceived into believing that the President is somehow caving in, when in fact he hasn't caved in on the tax cut issue once, not ever.
There is a big, big difference between making John Boehner look bad by offering a compromise you know he can't take, and actually caving in.
You are being deceived, april. Don't buy their bullshit.

(18,652 posts)Wait a minute - why does McConnell get to decide this? I thought Dems were in the majority, even with the lame ducks in the Senate. And we have a Dem VP.
