David Gregory’s ‘Meet the Press’ display of a high-capacity magazine may have violated D.C. gun law

Source: NY Daily News

After Gregory’s “Meet the Press” show-and-tell, some gun rights activists noted that a section in the D.C. code prohibited the show from having the magazine in its Washington studio.

“No person in the District shall possess, sell, or transfer any large capacity ammunition feeding device regardless of whether the device is attached to a firearm,” it reportedly says.

And a spokesman for the Washington Metropolitan Police Department confirmed to Politico that Gregory’s demonstration might have broken a local law. On Wednesday, the police also said that NBC News was aware that its prop was not lawful.

“NBC contacted (the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department) inquiring if they could utilize a high capacity magazine for their segment,” police spokeswoman Gwendolyn Crump told Politico in an email. “NBC was informed that possession of a high capacity magazine is not permissible and their request was denied.”

That we need to change the gun culture as much if not more than the gun laws themselves. Additionally that gun laws need to be stronger and more uniform.

the Pukes and Baggers don't want ANY questions about guns! Ever! Period! If they don't try and get him deported, I'll be surprised!

ROFL...Like there aren't Bagger Freaks in the "District" that don't have this shit up to their eyeballs...in their "bunkers"?

It's a joke.

For him to show that huge magazine to LaPierre, and LaPierre's inability/unwillingness to admit that these things have no business being among the general public, was stunning, as was his inability/unwillingness to admit that maybe a **smaller** magazine would do just as well, if people positively, absolutely have to have their AK-47s and Bushmasters. It was an exquisite demonstration of how fanatical and intransigent the NRA has become on the subject of weapons and gun control.

And it's rich that gun rights people are getting their pants in wad over this when there are -- tell me again -- how many assault weapons and other guns out on the streets? And how many people have been killed by guns in the week since Sandy Hook? But that's okay, because they're legal.

That most people in an uproar about assault weapons do not understand.....any gun enthusiaist can make a semi-auto gun into a fully auto fire with one trigger pull with just a little spring and etc manipulation on the internal workings of the gun. Banning them may stop stores from selling them but it will not stop the home mcguyvers from altering the guns they can purchase. Also read up on the law about owning guns that you make yourself......it will surprise you.

Let me also add that I personally have seen home-fabbed 'mega magazines' that perform flawlessly.

On one hand, converting a semi-auto firearm to full auto can be done with a couple of rubber bands. On the other hand, such a conversion is so difficult that you need an advanced degree from MIT to pull it off. Both versions have been floating around for years.....

You can believe me or not but, I personally know a person that has a contract with the US Gov. To build military weapons. I HAVE SEEN IT DONE...I FIRED A HANDGUN AND A RIFLE THAT BOTH HAD BEEN DONE THAT WAY.

All it takes it a mechanically inclined person who knows guns inside and out.

He was calling on the government to crack down on people possessing these magazines, sometimes it is a bitch when the government does what you ask.
