Ex-President Bush to Spend Christmas in Hospital

Source: ABC News

Former President George H.W. Bush will spend Christmas in a Houston hospital after developing a fever and weakness following a monthlong, bronchitis-like cough, his spokesman said Monday.

A hospital spokesman had said the 88-year-old ex-president would be released in time to spend the holiday at home, but that changed after Bush developed a fever.

"He's had a few setbacks. Late last week, he had a few low-energy days followed by a low-grade fever," Jim McGrath, Bush's spokesman in Houston, told The Associated Press. "Doctors still say they are cautiously optimistic, but every time they get over one thing, another thing pops up."

He said the cough that initially brought Bush to the hospital on Nov. 23 is now evident only about once a day, and the fever appears to be under control, although doctors are still working to get the right balance in Bush's medications. No discharge date has been set.

Must be nice to spend over a month in the hospital for a cough. I have two questions..

1) Are Americans paying for President HW Bush's cadillac health insurance?

2) If so, why should Americans pay for Poppy Bush to spend a month in hospital for a cough?

Even with TriCare, (which I'm sure he earned it from WWII), he should be moved to the nearest hospice for his final days.

...he's an old man who is suffering. And, he served this country - and his service in the Pacific contributed to the fact that my Dad DIDN'T have to serve in the Pacific after serving in Germany.

Perhaps I'm selfish or narrow-minded, but THANK YOU President Bush for your service!

As one of history's greatest monsters? The murderer of hundreds of thousands of people? The Kingpin of Crack Cocaine? An architect of the Afghan involvement that spawned al-Qaeda? This country does not need "servants" like these.

But I agree with you - I wouldn't wish Hitler well, and I don't wish George HW Bush well. He's still got his fingers in the pie, old or not, sick or not.

He may not be a crazy teabagger, but he's fucking evil.

All 3 of his rhythms were at their lowest point on 19 and 20 Dec. His physical crosses into the upper range today but the crossing is supposed to be a danger point (if I remember right from when I was into this stuff as a kid).

Put June 12 1924 as the birthdate.

On edit, I just put Jack Klugman's birthday in of 27 April 1922 and he died today on a physical bottom and very emotional low...spooky.

Modern medicine today can keep you alive much longer. Still, when no machines are involved and except in cases of accidental death, I think that most people follow their physical biorhythm.

it doesn't sound good for the long term prognosis.

do think his family can well afford to do the hospice thing at home and not tax the hospital funding.

I don't have a problem with the taxpayers picking up the tab for his insurance. I believe everyone has a right to good quality healthcare regardless of your post in life.

But I do take issue with your post that assumes he's laughing it up at a hospital.

Why can't you just wish an old man well without inserting your foot in your mouth?
