The former New York mayor Rudy Giulianis troubles deepened on Friday when he was suspended by WABC radio, for trying to use his show to discuss the lie that the 2020 presidential election was lost by Donald Trump because of electoral fraud. John Catsimatidis, a New York billionaire, Republican donor and owner of WABC, told the New York Times: Were not going to talk about fallacies of the November 2020 election. We warned him once. We warned him twice. And I get a text from him last night, and I get a text from him this morning that he refuses not to talk about it. So he left me no option. I suspended him.
Giuliani said he had been fired. In a lengthy statement, the former mayor said: Im learning from a leak to the New York Times that Im being fired by John Catsimatidis and WABC because I refused to comply with their overly broad directive stating, word-for-word, that Im prohibited from engaging in conversations relating to the 2020 presidential election.
A copy of a letter from Catsimatidis to Giuliani, dated 9 May and obtained by the Guardian, said Giuliani was prohibited from engaging in conversations relating to the 2020 presidential election on your programs broadcast on WABC
and otherwise in your capacity as an agent of the station. These specific topics include, but are not limited to, the legitimacy of the election results, allegations of fraud effectuated by election workers, and your personal lawsuits relating to those allegations. Claiming a clear violation of free speech, Giuliani said he would address the situation further on social media on Friday night.
But he went on to say the move by WABC came at a very suspicious time, just months before the 2024 election, and just as John and WABC continue to be pressured by Dominion Voting Systems and the Biden regimes lawyers. Dominion Voting Systems, a manufacturer of elections machines, reached a $787.5m settlement with Fox News over its broadcast of election fraud lies. It also sued Giuliani and Sidney Powell, another lawyer who worked on Trumps attempt to overturn the 2020 election.

A spokesperson for Giuliani did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Now 79, Giuliani was mayor of New York from 1993 to 2001, emerging as a national figure after leading the city through the 9/11 terror attacks. He ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008 but flopped.
Long close to Trump, who reportedly helped him through a personal crisis after the failed presidential run, Giuliani emerged as a steadfast supporter when Trump ran for the Republican nomination in 2016 and then won the White House.

(22,117 posts)Catsimatidis didnt want to face a defamation case like Fox had. Giuliani is a loose canon and his life is spiraling out of his control. Who knows what he could say during a live broadcast? Its a dangerous combination for a broadcasting station.
See ya, Rudy.

(13,660 posts)It's a privately-owned station and, thus, is free to allow/disallow anything they want. The same holds true for social media outlets, who routinely get peppered with the same nonsensical complaint.

(130,473 posts)I *know* there is a lot of snickering going on. I remember when WABC fired "the original" toxic talk host - "Get off my phone" Bob Grant - (after he was there for years after WOR had fired him)... and he eventually slinked away and returned to WOR, where once again. Bam! Out on the streets. Then I think he returned briefly back on WABC again to sub for all the loons he spawned and mentored before he finally bought the farm.

(15,072 posts)Omg...😮 You said one of those toxic names! Bob Grant!
🤔 Lemme think...
I'd listen to Rushbo at times to hear the enemy; and bc there were hardly any liberal radio voices on any NYC radio stations at the time during Clinton's Presidency ?first time (briefly RIP Air America radio).
Occasionally I"d drift down the dial, and there'd be Bob Grant on WOR. Ick!
I didn't know he bounced around radio wise bc I barely listened to him.
And then there was Mike Savage. 🙄
Ugh! A listen here & there.
BumRushDaShow
(130,473 posts)and he and Alan Colmes (who was also on WABC) got teamed up for "Hannity and Colmes", with Colmes as the "liberal" and Douche Hannity as the loon. That was also the period when Curtis Sliwa (before he and his wife Lisa went solo) had the "Curtis and Kuby" show too, with Ron Kuby as the "liberal" counterpoint to the snake Sliwa.
Ironically, I caught Limpballs' very first show because he took over Lynn Samuels' slot and she whined about it.
To get anything resembling "liberal" there, although I had to strain to pick it up, I would listen to WLIB (could pick it up better late nights). I think they even ran Air America programming.
And yeah that "other" lineup - Savage Weiner ( ), Mike Gallagher, Dennis Prager, and on and on.
