Trump could have helped response to Jan. 6 riot -- but didn't -- per new testimony

Donald Trump could have cleared up confusion and hastened the arrival of National Guard troops to quell the Capitol riot if he'd called Pentagon leaders on Jan. 6, 2021, according to recent closed-door congressional testimony by two former leaders of the D.C. guard.

Michael Brooks, the senior enlisted leader of the D.C. guard at the time of the riot, and Brigadier Gen. Aaron Dean, the adjutant general of the D.C. guard at the time, told House Administration Committee staffers that if Trump had reached out that day -- which, by all accounts, he did not -- he might have helped cut through the chaos amid a tangle of conflicting advice and miscommunication.

"Could the president have picked up the phone, called the secretary of defense, and said, you know, 'What's going on here?' Our law enforcement is getting overrun, make this happen!'" a committee staffer asked Brooks, according to the transcript of a previously unreported March 14 interview reviewed by POLITICO.

"I assume he could expedite an approval through the Secretary of Defense, through the Secretary of the Army," Brooks replied.

No just because he caused it, but because he knew those people were doing what they were doing for him.

It must have been a hell of an ego trip for him to watch that melee and realize he could actually get people to do sh!t like that on his say-so. I'll bet he was over the frcking moon the whole time!

That was probably the most powerful he had ever felt in his entire life. He sent out the call for "his people" to come to DC and they complied. Then when he said march to the capital, they eagerly went. I think it may have even gone better than he had expected.

I am sure he must have felt like a god. The only thing that could have made it better for him was if they'd taken down the metal detectors. I'm sure he would have loved to have seen some military style weapons and more bloodshed.

One thing that jumps out is that the bums that attacked the Capitol Building refer to people who work in the building, who work in government with continuous expletives. I shut the sound off, because why listen to criminals talking big about attacking unarmed people in a public building?

As a contrast, tune in to any live hearing and listen to the way the military, elected officials and other public servants refer to the criminals they are facing. You aren't going to hear Eric Swalwell, Nancy Pelosi and others refer to any of the traitors with anything but acceptable language. It doesn't make people supporting the U.S.A. weak. It shows us that the enemies of this country are lowlifes who are no better than thugs planning a armed robbery.

with the power to cut through all the red tape and competing priorities and personalities. That's the point they're making. Whether or not he would is irrelevant. He had the power and chose not to use because he liked what was happening and didn't want it to stop.

He instructed his driver to take him to the Capitol where HIS PEOPLE were headed. The Secret Service refused to take him because it was dangerous and some of the protesters were carrying weapons. Chump screamed "Those are MY people! They're not here to hurt me!"

Luckily the Secret Service guys on duty kept level heads and followed protocol. If the petulant retarded baby had gone to the Capitol it would have gotten out of hand so fast.

Donald Trump was "IN FAVOR OF THE RIOT!!!! & he wanted it to succeed. It is that simple. That is why he did nothing
to stop it. .

Trump wanted those that favored him in Congress to vote to accept him as ...."President of the United States of America."

He couldn't care less about those killed or went to prison. It was about him and only him!!!

Could we please get a Democratic supermajority so that they could pass a few more requirements for the job of leader of the free world?! Like, say,

1. Can't be an insurrectionist.
2. Can't be a rapist.
3. Can't have any kind of business dealings with foreign countries, especially adversarial ones.
4. MUST pass a top-secret security clearance before being allowed to declare one's candidacy.
5. Can't have previously stolen top-secret US documents.

Oh, and make it so that ALL presidential pardons must be approved by a simple majority of both the House and the Senate.

And enforce the emoluments rule, FFS!!!

and it really surprised me. His behavior showed his true feelings: disappointment and dejection that the madness and violence that day hadn’t worked. He was STILL gonna be forced out of the White House on Biden’s Inauguration Day.

Noticing that made me SOOOOOO happy!
