GOP Rep. Mike Turner: Russian propaganda is 'being uttered on the House floor'

Source: NBC News

April 7, 2024, 10:46 AM EDT / Updated April 7, 2024, 11:25 AM EDT

GOP Rep. Mike Turner on Sunday said that Russian propaganda has taken hold among some of his House Republican colleagues and is even "being uttered on the House floor."

"We see directly coming from Russia ... communications that are anti-Ukraine and pro-Russia messages, some of which we even hear being uttered on the House floor," Turner, the chair of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence said in an interview on CNN's "State of the Union."

"There are members of Congress today who still incorrectly say that this conflict between Russia and Ukraine is over NATO, which of course it is not," he added.

Turner's office did not immediately respond to NBC News' request for clarification about which members of Congress he was referring to. His comments come on the heels of remarks House Foreign Relations Committee Chair Michael McCaul made this week about how Russian propaganda has taken root among the GOP.

or support the Discharge Petition or call for a vote on Johnson's speakership and join Dems in supporting someone who will fund Ukraine (preferably Jeffries but if that is pipe dreaming, a Republican who will, and challenge his speakership if he doesnt).

i think one Rep rep leaving doesn't give us that, but a Rep doing his job could.

8. Actually, once there aren't any left with enough conscience to complain

then we are even more screwed. So if he's going to stay in Congress and not switch parties, his speaking up is better than nothing

11. I disagree. There really are a lot of Republicans finding out what their line is

though most do too little about it. They are all very late.

I include Nicole Wallace in this. She wrote speeches for Gearge W. There wasn't enough evidence of where that was taking us then? But she's on our side now and doing a terrific job.

Stuart Stevens (It Was All a Lie) is the only reformed Republican (maybe Frank Schaefer and a few others) who admit the probelm goes way back and have apologized for their part in it. Most who are finally seeing the light act as if the Republican Party was just fine until Trump, or that Trump was OK until--whatever transgression finally got the them.

We need all of them--they are the only people who can actually speak to Republicans who don't get it yet.
Michael Fanone, officer who was beaten on Jan. 6 voted for Trump and has spoken out why he did and why he changed.
Cassidy Hutchinson has been shunned by her own father, besides risking her safety, but thank God for her.
i could go on and on.

The ones that bother me are the ones who say nothing. Even the ones who leave office, but don't say why. The ones who stay in office and will trade democracy for their agenda. And the large pool of cult members who have no line.

Bless everyone who has a line and speaks up, however small and however late.

Putin’s willing mouthpieces. They betray their oath of office each and every day and desecrate the building they enter every day and the sacrifices of generations of people who built it and our democracy with their sacrifices. Of course they also cheered on and enabled those carrying Confederate flags to desecrate the same building and attack those defending democracy like the Capitol Police and every employee and elected official who refused to yield that building to those traitorous thugs. So there’s a special ring of hell reserved for them, and they deserve the maximum opprobrium and criminal accountability for their willing aiding and abetting of the overthrow of our democracy. 🤬
