Obama Going On 'Morning Joe'
Source: The Huffington Post
President Obama is going on MSNBC for the first time in a very long time.
The president will appear on "Morning Joe" on Monday, October 29th, the network announced Friday. He will tape an interview with Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski in New Hampshire on the Saturday before the chat airs.
It's a definite coup for "Morning Joe," which has been granted a sit-down with the man who, for instance, refused an interview with Chris Matthews just a few months ago.
It has been so long since Obama appeared on the network that president Phil Griffin had started touting it as a defense from accusations that MSNBC is in the tank for the Democrats.

Just my two cents, but I think this is about as dumb a move by the campaign as the advice to Obama of "Whatever you do, don't fight back in the first debate."
Joe is a lying weasel and in Romney's pocket. He can't be trusted to give a fair interview. He's Hannity-lite.
If anyone on MSNBC should have been rewarded with a presidential visit, it should have been the much higher-rated Maddow, Matthews, Lawrence or Ed.

First of all, Joe Scumborough will be star struck. He's such a "B" list politician/TV Host, he'll be stuttering and drooling in the presence of our amazing president. And second, what could he possibly ask that Prez Obama couldn't answer? Joe ain't that smart. The president will be "handling" Joe. Not the other way around.

(14,093 posts)yet Romney would never do an MSNBC interview with a liberal host in a million years.

(3,450 posts)Again, this is another sign that Obama and his advisers have not yet internalized the lessons of accomodating the rightwing zealots and disrespecting his supporters. They constantly accomodate the rightwingers despite all they have thrown at t he left.

(4,267 posts)Maybe he'd be getting the interview if he didn't flog the President's every failing to frickin' death. Honestly, he's been around long enough to know that some of the stuff he's demanding to see happen isn't politically viable. I don't know why he does it when Matthews otherwise seems to truly detest Romney.

(3,590 posts)I don't think this is a bad idea. Shmoe will knife him in the back later but it shows he, unlike Mittens, is unafraid and people like that quality I think.

(8,911 posts)It was pre taped and part of a MSNBC special. So it isn't like Obama has avoided the man. I agree. 9 days left, no reason wasting precious time exchanging pleasantries with Martin Bashir (who I love) lets focus on the "independent even if that means giving Joe a bone. At least Mika will be there, she seems balanced.

(46,436 posts)and I doubt that Joe Scarborough will be rude. If O were on in the afternoon, he'd be preaching to the choir. With Scarborough, he has a chance to sway more right-leaning viewers.

(1,237 posts)Watch MSNBC? I would think they would be watching fox instead of a watered down version of a fox program. If he wants to grab right leaning viewers he'd be better off going on CNN or fox. There's nothing to be gained by going on Joe, it will just empower Joe for his run in 2016.

He will do beautifully. Joe and Mika are just wallpaper.

(103 posts)Three things strike me as a good reason for him to do this. First is the time slot, most of the other interviews have been later in the day so this can be seen be people whose free time is in the morning. Secondly is the rightward nature of Joe himself, his regular audience is more likely to be the less informed and independent sorts that he's have more impact on. Third is that going on Maddow or the others would paint them as being even more partisan then they are already seem to other. It would be a bit like preaching to the choir, anyway.

Seriously, this will be good because since Mittens is going "radio silent" seemingly until 11/6/12, our guy doing Schmoe and any and all other interviews will merely show how much of a @!*%$^#$ Willard is. Hopefully the distinction will be evident to the few idiots who are "undecided...
Although if freaking Halperin is there, it could be a good day for John McCain!!! LOL
Plus, and almost as importantly, this will be a great day for DU. Normally each morning, (Mourning?) we have many "JoeyScar said this stupid thing again..." or " I hate Schmoe's beady eyes so much that..." or "that damn Meeka is so..." or "that Jim Vanderdick is so in the tank for..." or "Harold Ford IS ON OUR SIDE???.." threads going to amuse ourselves and have fun with. Its become part of my daily routine actually, watching some of the show and then complaining about it here or not watching and then complaining about it here. To the people who say turn it off or don't watch it, I say OK but then I couldn't bitch about the show anymore... what kinda fun is that??? HAHAHA
Anyway, I suppose on Monday will we have dozens of threads flipping out over this appearance, flooding DU??? Will several of us start running "official threads" for POTUS's appearance on the show??? ("OFFICIAL THREAD #8" And will there be several polls asking our normal DU-ish questions??? (What the hell was Barnicle wearing?) I fear and hope that the DU bandwidth will be large enough??? It did get sorta slow during the last debate... We will definitely have lots of thread titles with all caps???
The Prez will be just fine, but DU will be in an uproar. It is most excellent news...
I can't wait!!!

(1,201 posts)Why? On Morning Joe, Mark Helprin once called the president of the United States a dick. (No, he did not call W a dick, which he clearly is, shock; he said it about President Obama). Morning Joe is the show that should be called "Shut Up Mika" due to the absolute contempt that Joe and some of the guest show her on a daily basis. If someone talked to my wife as patronizingly as Joe does, it would be hard for me not to go off on him.
I don't get it. President Obama will go on these right wing shows like O'Reily and Morning Joe only to be disrespected, but he won't go on The Ed Show, Rachael, or Thom Hartmann to fire up his base. Can someone explain why that is?
winstars
(4,220 posts)Maybe he'll call Halperin a dick. Maybe he will ask Joe about Lori Klausutis, lets see Schmoe ban him from MSNBC like he did Kos. Maybe he will ask Meeka why she just doesn't knock those beady fucking eyes of Scars right out the back of his head the next time he patronizes her. Maybe he will ask Harold Ford why he is a Rich Republican Wall Street guy, only pretending to be a Democrat (and then very very weakly). Maybe he will ask Mike Allen to please blink his eyes for the first time on the TeeVee. Maybe he will tell Ed Rendell to save his horribly bad advice for Hillary in 2016. Maybe he will ask Mike Barnicle if he has stolen anyone else's stories and used them as his own recently.
We can hope, can't we???

(8,911 posts)Hartman reaches a smaller pool of diehards for Democrats, not a lot to gain but still the standard risks. Hartman has attacked Obama before so it isn't a "safe shot". A smart move, even though I would love to him have a 3 hour chat with Randy Rhodes, it just wouldn't help at this point, a week left.
Jennicut
(25,415 posts)He is much more casual. Morning Joe is all about a group of people giving their opinions, not one on one tough interviews. I would be more afraid of someone like Chris Wallace, who actually has been hard on interviews with Repubs. I am not worried at all.
MADem
(135,425 posts)he will want to go down "Imus Road" and throw himself under the bus for ideology. He'll probably try to get a lick or two in to show he's "independent" (cough-bullshit-cough) but he will risk viewers and even his job if he goes too far over the line.
I think Obama's goal of blanketing the airwaves and being on every channel will initiate a narrative about who is available and who is not; who's the real deal, and who is a bullshitter.

(2,900 posts)Obama is appearing on a lot of various talk shows and getting an opportunity to be charming and humanize himself and make people comfortable with him. Romney isn't doing this and would probably fail if he did. I think it is a good idea and will gain votes and comfort for the Democratic ticket in general.

(1,435 posts)lies he never told, to keep his story straight, like R Money would. He can remind Joe in spite of all the obstruction, he accomplished a lot.
Created 5 million jobs, doubled stock market, health care, reduced taxes on small business 18 times, and gave tax breaks to middle class through payroll tax cuts. Has jobs bill and farm bill waiting to be passed by Repug house .
On foreign policy killed Bin Ladin, and a lot of their leadership. Libya with no casualties, ended Iraq war.
By having interview on Morning Joe, it will be carried ALL day on Msnbc and other news outlets.

(8,911 posts)A showing of strength from Obama because diehards watching the Last Word are voting Obama. However there are a lot more "low info" and moderates watch Morning Joe. It is a demographic Romney can't even touch because he is stuck still rallying diehards on Hannity.
