Romney Campaign Co-Chair (Sununu): Colin Powell Endorsed Obama Because He Is Black
Source: Think Progress
In an interview with CNNs Piers Morgan this evening, Romney Campaign Co-Chair and former New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu (R-NH) offered a surprising theory on why General Colin Powell endorsed President Obama for reelection today because both men are black:
SUNUNU: You have to look at whether Powells endorsement is on issues or a slightly different reason for endorsing President Obama.
MORGAN: What is that?
SUNUNU: Well, when you have somebody of your own race that is President of the United States I applaud Colin for standing with him.

The disgraced and corrupt Sununu brings more of the blatant racism the Romney campaign has been running on all year.

(9,141 posts)Cause he's white. They always accuse the other side of doing what they themselves are doing. So the only reason Sununu supports Romney is because he's white...and I don't salute him for that because the man is gutter slime as sleazy as they come.

(4,987 posts)In 2008 McCain received 30% of black vote. That proves they are not racists.
Also Obama received close to 50% of white votes. So they are not racists either.
Sununu is completely wrong.

(333 posts)Among whites, it was 54%-40% in favor of McCain. But everything else you said is true--most of us don't vote based on skin color. If that were the case, then why didn't Herman Cain go anywhere in the GOP primaries? Blacks and other minorities vote based on our fiscal status and which candidate offers the best policies for upward mobility among the working class.

(163 posts)Coln Powell is an intelligent man who happens to be African American. Intelligent and moral people can easily see that Romney/Ryan are dishonest men who will destroy all that is decent and works for the common good. Romney would likely usher in an era of Fascism that would begin a dark period. Once the Fascists take over its going to be extremely difficult to stop them. These past 32 years we have been witness to the slow but methodical destruction of our Democracy by these willing and able forces. Aligning with Christians and Corporations to undo social safety nets. The Faith based initiatives promoted by Bush were the beginning. Historically one can look to the Third Reich and its creation of a nationalistic and racist church that bore little resemblance to true Christianity. Politicians such as Bachman have used their elected office to destroy true democracy and replace it with this Dominionist world view. This is why she has been one of the least productive congress persons of all time. I hope that Notable and courageous public figures continue to endorse Obama. This is what needs to happen in order to slow the momentum towards fascism.

Romney's Honey Badger saying this will be grist for the morning talk shows for sure. Another Joe S. Sweet Jesus or facepalm. I am going to love Maddow tomorrow night quoting Powell's endorsement statement and Sununu's reply that it is all about race.
This keeps Romney on the defensive for the weekend. I wonder if he will take any questions.

(2,730 posts)Sun nu is the same guy that called President Obama lazy. Now here he is again race baiting. People should see right through it. General Powell is voting for President Obama because he is the better man. I can't say too much about many people in the Republican Party including Sun nu, Gingrich and most of the guys in his Party that believe rape is not rape. Check these guys out. They say things to deceive the public while secretly giving support to guys like Akins and the person from Indiana. Talk about the honor of these frauds. I don't think they can put Colin Powell in his place. Some men are not going to cower.

(7,403 posts)Never mind what the transcript clearly shows making Sununu a pathological liar. It was Sununu, in the context of Powell's reasoning for endorsing Obama, that said "when you have someone of your own race... I applaud Colin for standing with him". It is clearly not in the context of whether Powell should be dumped from the Republican Party as Sununu now claims but rather that Powell's decision was based on having a common race and that Sununu applauds the decision on that basis. Sununu once again proves what a skunk he really is. Keep in mind that Sununu is part of Romney's inner circle.
What will Romney say on this. Oh, never mind, Romney is not taking any questions until after the election, obviously because of the release of his testimony supporting his friend and CEO of Staples where Romney low-balled the worth of Staples stock in divorce court just a year prior to it going public. Romney testified that the stock was worth $1.75 and 12 months later on IPO date the stock closed at $22.50. The ex-wife sold half of her stock for around $2.50 thinking she got a great deal. It just sucks to come in contact with anything related to Bain and Romney.

(1,120 posts)Such disrespect for Colin Powell, this man has shown nothing but loyalty to country. He could have been president, but chose not to run. Then Bush administration sacrificed his integrity, in front of the world at the UN, to justify the invasion of Iraq.
Even then, he took it like the strong man he is. It is sad to see how the Republicans treat the most formidable black man they have ever had in their party.

John Sununus History Of Racial Remarks About Obama
Snip...
Obama is a foreigner. Obama doesnt understand the American system because he spent his early years in Hawaii smoking something, spent the next set of years in Indonesia, another set of years in Indonesia, and, frankly, when he came to the U.S. he worked as a community organizer, which is a socialized structure. [Fox News, 7/17/2012]
Obama doesnt know how to be an American. During a conference call, Sununu claimed, The men and women all over America who have worked hard to build these businesses, their businesses, from the ground up is how our economy became the envy of the world. It is the American way. And I wish this president would learn how to be an American. [Conference call, 7/17/2012]
Obama is a lazy idiot. Sununu described Obamas debate performance as babbling, lazy, and disengaged, and dismissed the possibility that he could do better in the future. When youre not that bright you cant get better prepared. [Fox News, 10/4/2012]
Obama has no class, just wants to be cool. That moment of using the B.S. word was kind of a self-defining moment for the president, he told Sean Hannity. No class, wants to be cool. Sacrifices the dignity of the presidency for appearing cool to a magazine that works for some of his base. [Fox News, 10/25/2012]

(2,730 posts)don't we quit beating around the bush and call it honestly like Colonel Williams on the Ed show says. It is not just Sununu but many people in his Party are racists. Think about it. People in the Democratic Party has been held to double standards when even talking about the issue if racism. When you confront the issue they cleverly call it hate speech but that is only a tactic to escape the issue.
If you look at this holistically, leaders in the Republican Party has shown disdain not only for Blacks and Hispanics but any white person that speaks up about the issue by calling them communists and using the words Lefty or Liberals negatively as code language for hate. Look at the examples of hate language used towards Gays, feminists, Muslims and anybody that doesn't agree with them. That how they categorize others as them ( the 47%). They are intolerant against anybody who does not agree with their philosophy. That is anti-American. That is why they are called a rightwing group. That is different from the Democratic Party which is more tolerant. Someone like Todd Akins or Sununu would have been isolated in the Democrated Party if they used the language that some in the Republican Party has portrayed. Yet you have many in the Republican Party excusing it. I don't think anybody in the Democratic Party would have gotten away with the lying exhibited by the Republican Party leaders either. Take the examples of Murdoch, Akins and Sununu. The Republican leadership just give lip service but accept them back into the status quo as if nothing happened. Yet they would;d have called for the disassociation of a Democratic leader if they did the same thing. What if a supporter of the Democratic Party had attended a public rally with a shirt calling put the Black back in the whitehouse? You would hear an outcry from the Republican Party, yet what is troubling, so many people are willing to turn a blind eye and support Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan. America should reject the REpublican Party because they don't represent true American values.
