Romney talks tough and accuses Obama of failing to lead on Middle East

Source: The guardian

Mitt Romney claimed the world was a more dangerous place than when Barack Obama took office, as he accused the president of mishandling the Middle East and called for the US to pursue its traditional role as the world's policeman.

Displaying new-found confidence since his debate victory last week, Romney used a major foreign policy speech in Virginia to attack Obama for a lack of leadership on a range of international issues, including Iran, Israel-Palestine, Libya and Syria. "Hope is not a strategy," Romney declared.

"I believe that if America does not lead, others will; others who do not share our interests and our values, and the world will grow darker, for our friends and for us," Romney told the audience of cadets at the Virginia Military Institute.

Obama's failure to project strength abroad, Romney said, had left the US at the mercy of events in the Middle East and vulnerable to terrorist attacks, such as the one in Benghazi which killed the American ambassador to Libya, Chris Stevens.

And neither is it for about 90% of the voters.

Only the newspapers editorial boards and think tankers give a shit.

was living in a chateau in France, braving weapons no more deadly than baguettes as he attempted to convert the French to Mormonism.

But he thinks that he was in territory as hostile as if he had been serving in Vietnam.

He was as out of touch then as he is now. But like all the warmongering chickenhawks who advise him, he talks tough.

If that were true, the strongest nations on earth would not be suffering terrorist attacks at home and abroad, 9/11 would never have happened, the Marine barracks in Lebanon would never have happened, and Israel would not be suffering attacks everyday. The absence of war is NOT peace. You can only have peace through peace.

With a conservative nutjob...he tried to pull this leadership crap on me. Told the guy that the cowboy style of foreign policy is over. Time for those other countries to work out their own problems...which some are. We cannot send our men and women to fight internal scabbles.

Btw...was this a narrative that faux news is pushing recently?

Hey Willard, you do realize you're talking about the man who killed Osama bin Laden?

I'm sitting here thinking back to the summer...Romney managed to piss off the best ally we have in the world. I can only shudder at the thought of what would happen if he'd pissed off one of the countries in the world that respond to insults with gunfire. As president, he'd have four years of opportunities to do that.
