Pro-democracy protesters overtake Islamist group's HQ in Benghazi

Source: From Arwa Damon, CNN

Benghazi, Libya (CNN) -- Ten days after four Americans were killed in their Libyan city, hundreds of pro-democracy demonstrators marched in Benghazi and overtook the headquarters of a radical Islamist group tied to the attack.
The protesters took to the street Friday, loudly declaring that they -- and not those behind last week's deadly attack -- represent the real sentiments of the Libyan people.
As militia members fled, the protesters torched a vehicle and took over the headquarters of Ansar al-Sharia without firing a single shot. They also claimed to have freed at least 20 captives held in the building.

3. This is what I want to see... Stand up to the instigators of hate.

I'm sure they know though, that those who they have scared away use the tactics of cowards for reprisal. They had better be aware and stand ready to defend their democracy.

4. Libyans storm militia building after giant protest in wake of attack on US consulate

BENGHAZI, Libya — Hundreds of protesters stormed the compound of one of Libya’s strongest armed Islamic extremist groups Friday, evicting militiamen and setting fire to their building as the attack that killed the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans sparked a public backlash against armed groups that run rampant in the country and defy the country’s new, post-Moammar Gadhafi leadership.

Armed men at the administrative center for the Ansar al-Shariah militia, suspected to have led the Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. Benghazi consulate, first fired in the air to disperse the crowd, but eventually withdrew from the site with their weapons and vehicles after it was surrounded by waves of protesters shouting “No to militias.”

“I don’t want to see armed men wearing Afghani-style clothes stopping me in the street to give me orders, I only want to see people in uniform,” said Omar Mohammed, a university student who took part in the takeover, which protesters said was done in support of the army and police.

No deaths were reported in the incident, which came after tens of thousands marched in Benghazi in a rally against armed militias. A vehicle was also burned at the compound, which was taken over by Libyan security forces after its occupants fled.

12. Introduce her to people from cultures other than her own

Most of these people like your mother, dislike the idea that's been planted in their heads but I bet she has never met someone of the Muslim faith, let alone had a conversation with one.

Anything she says that goes again Jesus, just ask her that.

"Who would Jesus stereotype?"

The impression that Libya is full of radical Islamists needs tempering.

11. Thank you. I see that posted here on DU and it is shameful.

These are the people who rose up against Gaddafi, not the islamists who are a minority.
