Paul Ryan Booed By AARP Crowd For Promising To Repeal ‘Obamacare’

by Noah Rothman | 1:02 pm, September 21st, 2012

Republican vice presidential candidate Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI)was not well received at a gathering held by the American Association of Retired Peoples on Friday. After Ryan said the first step to strengthening Medicare is to repeal President Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act, the crowd erupted into boos.

After promising to repeal “Obamacare,” the crowd jeered. “I had a feeling there would be mixed reactions,” said Ryan amid the chorus of booing.

“It weakens Medicare for today’s seniors and puts it at risk for the next generation,” said Ryan to more booing.

“You may not have heard this side of the story,” said Ryan, after detailing the Medicare funds stripped in order to fund the ACA. “The law turned Medicare into a piggybank for Obamacare.”

2. Ryan said he expected a "mixed reaction".

My TV must not be capable of playing the cheers, because all I heard were the jeers.

Now that Romney/Ryan have been trumpeting the nonsense that Obama is "taking $751b out of Medicare" for so long that fact checkers have roundly discounted the claim, it's possible that canard has reached the end of it's shelf life.

The campaign may have to take one of their greatest hits sound bites out of rotation if this is a trend. Sure, it'll still play to the TeaBilly crowd who will cheer wildly at any utterance made by their hero Ryan, but they can't limit themselves to compliant audiences anymore.

This could be yet another turning point in the campaign. I bet Republicans long for the days that "pallin' around with terrorists" was their Dark Side Of The Moon, the hit that never got old no matter how many times fans heard it.

10. This was posted at almost the same time as another thread

http://www.democraticunderground.com/1014239706

In fact, yours was posted a few seconds earlier (they both have the same timestamp to the nearest minute). But the other one has more replies and recs (24 recs and 13 replies, as opposed to 19 recs and 9 replies for this). So, with apologies, the LBN hosts have decided we'd rather lock this one, and get the conversation to continue on the other thread.

If you don't like this, send me a PM, and I'll unlock this - but that will divide the conversation and recs between the 2 news threads.
