Dr Pepper Facebook Ad Ignites Evolution Debate
Source: Yahoo
Dr Pepper set off a heated debate over evolution on Thursday after posting an advertisement to its Facebook page, which showed an ape evolving into a man thanks to the discovery of a can of Dr Pepper. "My ancestors were created in the Garden of Eden," one user posted in response to the advertisement. "I ain't no freaking chimp. No more Dr Pepper for my household. God Bless y'all," Another complained: "this is showing the theory of men evolving from apes. I have lost all respect for Dr Pepper and if Dr Pepper wants business from thousands of people they will need to apologize." (Spellings have been corrected throughout.) They obviously haven't evolved sufficiently to engage in critical thinking. I am a Christian but I engage in critical thought. I don't buy the 7 day story. This was told in a way that people at the time could understand.
These nutcases always talk big about how they are going to show that horrible anti-Christian so-and-so a thing of two and they always fizzle. There was the boycott of Disney because they have Gay day, etc. These always die out because there are not enough people willing to actually participate. |

64. Well when I asked about that...
|
...The answer I got was that Adam and Eve had 8 children, or 11, or 13. Gosh, different preachers had different answers. When I asked them where that was said in the Bible, well, gosh, they referred me to various commentaries on that book of fractured fairy tales. That's what started me on the path to atheism at the age of 8.

There was a guy/gal in a thread ranting about how religion, a personal thing, faith that is, is intruding in all of our lives. Jones and the meth-cooker have caused international grief in the name of religion. Whether these attacks are a coordinated effort by enemies of our country or not, our right wing religious nuts allowed our enemies a distraction, religious riots, to be able to KILL an ambassador and three others. They are just as responsible for these deaths as the ones who perpetrated the murders. The guy/gal who was so angry about religion intruding into every aspect of our lives, whether we believe or not, I agree with your assessment. Religion really, really sucks.

They don't think they evolved at all. They think humans were created by god just as you see them today.
Furthermore, I'll bet the common ancestor looked a lot more like an ape than it looked like us. Finally, some would argue that we are just a new type of great ape. So that distinction really misses the point of the argument. |

But they tell their children that god is perfectly justified in sending them to eternal torture -- because they fully deserver it(!) -- if they don't subscribe to the right version of the right fairytale, so they've kind of "pegged the needle" on insults even before they start in on evolution.

The Vatican accepted evolution as fact in 1950. The people who claim to be of th faith here in the U.S. are usually about 100 years behind the curve, heck some of them just got around to finding a copy of the Constitution, still haven't read it, but these things must be taken in steps.

|
Last edited Fri Sep 14, 2012, 10:31 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1) that the Bible is important but does not necessarily have to be taken literally. He said for instance the flood: "Did it rain exactly forty days and forty nights, we don't know. Suffice it to say it rained a lot." He also said that the bible was written by men who had their own prejudices of the time, which were reflected in the work. He said God may have inspired the bible but he didn't write it himself.
So that was interesting to get his take on it. I used to be a Catholic, I am now more of an agnostic bordering on atheism. I, however, fully believe in Evolution. Far too much evidence to deny. |

is a mystery to me. How much proof do these clowns need?
And no, we did not evolve from apes. We shared a common ancestor. How hard is that to understand? |

As a teacher I can verify that this anti-science movement is affecting young students. GIGO: garbage in garbage out takes them to a place where they aren't using good facts, thus their conclusions are fallacious. There needs to be an educational effort to educate these kids before a complete generation is lost.

|
we had a question in our social studies workbook. There was a picture of a museum diorama of a group of Neanderthals and the question was "Could this be a photograph of real cave men?"
I was about to answer yes and list all the things in picture that identified the people in the diorama as Neanderthals, then I reconsidered and wrote what was logical-- "No, because they didn't have cameras back then." It wasn't the answer in the answer book, but the teacher liked my answer better and gave me 100%. |

The people who believe in a creator god and accept evolution are too tiny a number to even count because none exist. The vast majority of people that claim to accept evolution really do not accept evolution at all. They accept their own version of evolution - or junk evolution.
Evolution is random mutation and natural selection - not god guided mutation and god guided selection. Humans are decidedly not a predicted result of evolution. We are the result but not an intended result. Ask the question of any christian and they will tell you humans were the intended result - which is NOT evolution but JUNK science. What's even sadder is that people are making up pseudoscience to fit their faith which totally corrupts the actual science and completely disrespect the thousands of scientists and millions of hours devoted to the science itself. Theistic evolution is a perfect example of junk science. That a god is somehow guiding the mutations and selections that make up evolutions is hysterical and so poorly conceived. A god would have to be purposefully throwing asteroids the size of Mars at the earth to nearly destroy it and tilt it on its axis to affect specific changes in mutations along with all the other quintillions of interacting agents such as regulating volcanic output etc . . . And what kind of god guides 99.9% of his creations to extinction? Absurdity in the name of faith. The sad fact is only about 10% of the population accept the actual science of evolution - random mutation and natural selection with no species an intended result. |

This is the perfect being which God created:
can't make its own Vitamin C, a trait shared only with rats can't make half the amino acids it needs--a trait we share with the genetically engineered Jurassic Park dinos, who couldn't synthesize lysine either has two major single points of failure: one heart and one brain--but has two of most of the other vital organs has organs you don't really need (tonsils), organs you're almost better without (gall bladder) and organs whose only job is to kill you if they fail (appendix) |

109. And here I was, thinking I was such a person
The people who believe in a creator god and accept evolution are too tiny a number to even count because none exist. But now comes Oddman, telling me that I do not exist. In fact, many, if not most, Christians believe in both a creator God and in evolution. One such was the late Pope John Paul II. |

Who'da thought. A commercial being inaccurate! I don't think Darwinists ever conceived of Dr. Pepper being involved in human evolution either. Somehow, we can take that damage. I seem to remember Fed-Ex had a certain commercial years ago that had cave men interacting with dinosaurs. Neither fundamentalists nor Darwinists complained about that. |

|
Anything that isn't "Man was created from God's image on the 6th day of creation several thousand years ago" pisses them off. It wouldn't be so bad if they just kept their delusions about the earth being 6,000 years old and dinosaurs and humans coexisting to themselves. Problem is they are trying to get this type creationism taught in schools. Sure, they are entitled to their own opinion, but they are not entitled to their own reality.

Some of these comments are freaking hilarious!!! My favorite so far:
Eileen Hoyt: Let's see...Muslim fundamentalists freak out about a really bad short film, and Christian fundamentalists freak out about a soda pop ad. You crazy kids have so much in common! Are you secret BFF's? Then this exchange: Matt Hjorth: Lol The best part is someone named "Kiandrea K'Genisis SwagHoe Jackson" is trying to make a legitimate argument, that name screams knowledge haha Right after THAT: Kiandrea K'Genisis SwagHoe Jackson: Evolution is not real. Plain and simple, is there footage of it? No!! Um... is there any, any evidence? Nah! Can we still see monkeys? Yeah! uHm... duhn bes' beh the bible is truth! And therefore evolution aint real. I have scientifically come to the belief that the only people related to monkeys are gays! Gays aren't even humans.. they're genetically less smart!! And gravity? Yeah, that aint real either. This whole dayum ting as taught me dat. Cuz it's just a theory! So is the globe shaped earth! I mean.. thats a theory! a stoopid, please.. please.. think about it. Flat ground, round earth? Makes sense.. nope. Evolution is wrong,l except it. No smart person believes it. No proof for it You just can't make this stuff up... |
