While a teacher, (MI)11th District candidate Bentivolio's behavior was a problem, records show

Source: Detroit Free Press

On the first day of school last year, Kerry Bentivolio told students in his English class at Fowlerville High School that he had one goal: to make each one of them cry at least once.

Bentivolio, now the Republican candidate in Michigan's 11th Congressional District -- which includes western Wayne and Oakland counties -- also told the students that they were "just a paycheck to me," according to a description of incidents in his personnel file.

The Free Press obtained his records under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act. Bentivolio didn't return calls Tuesday.

Bentivolio's declarations earned him a verbal reprimand from his assistant principal and a formal letter demanding that he correct his behavior

To them, the whole point of raising a kid is to make that kid obey them and conform to them-so the kids will grow up to make others obey and conform

It makes me think of these lyrics by the great English songwriter Leon Rossenson:

Whoever invented the Policeman,
ought to be licked into shape.
Toughened and trained, 'til the body's a cane
'til the arms are a chain, 'til the nerves feel no pain,
'til obedience rules and encircles the brain,
With walls so he'll never escape.

Because who'd do that to a child,
jumping with joy and desire.
Floating in fantasies, drowning in dreams,
Brimming with feelings of fire.

And progress, is all very well,
but not when it locks up our dreams.
And it's hard to feel, at ease in the world,
when nothing is what it seems.

"UNION LEECH LIVING ON THE DOLE!"

"BULLY!"

"CHILD ABUSER!"

But...it seems, IOKIYAR.

Now I'm reading this article. I wonder how this passage got thru the editors? "Bentivolio...became the beneficiary of U.S. Rep. Thaddeus McCotter's colossal election screwup when he failed to qualify for the ballot because of fraudulent petition signatures." Who the hell wrote this, an intern? I think real journalism would've come up with something better, like "McCotter's failure to qualify for the ballot". THERE! Fewer words making the point.

And I clicked on the graphic...damn this is some brutal stuff.

The comments section is pretty much a collective "BOOOO!!"

The top-liked comment: "If you don't like being around spoiled kids, then DON"T go into teaching! Of course if it was YOUR child that came home and told you that this teacher did this to them, you all would have a s**t fit !"

Then: "It takes a lot of bad behavior to get a written warning and an improvement plan. This is not what we need running a classroom or representing our interests."

And: "A public school teacher who tells his students "you're just a paycheck to me" and yet, the tea-party and GOP will defend him. The hypocrisy is not at all surprisng. If he was running as a democratic party candidate, the same people now supporting him would claim he is an example of bad public employees, failed schools, blah blah blah. Well, you can have him - thank God I don't live in that district. And speaking of districts, did you notice the graphic of the shape of that district? Nice gerrymandering there, Michigan GOP - good job at stealing democracy."
