Police: Man who saw Batman arrested with guns

BOSTON - An arsenal of guns were seized from a Maine man over the weekend shortly after he saw "The Dark KnightRises," Maine State Police said.

A trooper stopped Timothy Courtois, 49, for doing 112 mph on the Maine Turnpike Sunday morning, police said. Motorists had reported seeing a speeding Mustang with its flashers on.

Upon pulling him over, police found an assault rifle, four handguns and several boxes of ammunition, they said. Also found inside his car were recent news clippings of the mass shooting at the Colorado movie theater, police said.

Police said Courtois then admitted to police he had attended the Batman movie at the Cinemagic Theater in Saco Saturday night with a loaded gun in his backpack. He also told authorities that he was on his way to Derry, N.H. to shoot a former employer.

89. Well, not particularly difficult...

just a lot of waiting.

The forms to fill out aren't even that very long. But the waiting time is 6-8 months, IIRC, once submitted. Getting the local Sheriff to sign off prior varies highly.

If you can afford a legal full-auto weapon (prices start at around $5K, again IIRC), you can afford the $200 tax stamp.

But I consider it to be a poll tax.... one all too many "progressives" are just sanguine about. Hypocrites.

Or you can go the way of a Trust, but that will get more expensive with the required legal paperwork. Easier in the long run if you intend to buy more than one though.

‘Homeland’ security coming to hotels, malls
http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2010/12/26/homeland-security-coming-hotels-malls/

WASHINGTON – The United States is stepping up security at “soft targets” like hotels and shopping malls, as well as trains and ports, as it counters the evolving Al-Qaeda threat, a top official said Sunday.

A year after a foiled plot to bomb a US-bound passenger plane, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano told CNN’s “State of the Union” program that other places and modes of transportation must now be scrutinized.

“We look at so-called soft targets — the hotels, shopping malls, for example — all of which we have reached out to in the past year and have done a fair amount of training for their own employees,” Napolitano said.

is expanded to things like preventing filming in theatres?

A few months ago I went to see a movie and near the concessions were probably 15 cops and another 5-10 theatre security guards standing around. Why? I shit you not, all of it was because someone had brought a camera into the theatre.

Also found inside his car were recent news clippings of the mass shooting at the Colorado movie theater, police said.

The fact that he had those clippings definitely makes me question why he went to the same movie with a gun.

It's quite possible he went to see the movie with a gun just in case, or he could have planned to be a copycat but chickend out. Regardless, it is relevant.

I don't know how severe of a charge the concealed handgun will be in Maine. In California a first offense is usually a misdemeanor unless there are drugs involved.

19. Several issues with this post

First, there are seven handguns in the picture and four rifles, one of which is clearly an assault type. So either the pic is bullshit, or the reportage is bullshit.

Second, the reportage is bullshit. It fans the flames that Batman movies causes gun violence. There have been movies with gun violence since the beginning of cinema. Nobody was complaining about it in the thirties, forties, fifties, etc. and don't get me started about Loonie Toons or Road Runner cartoons.

The only reason why this Batman movie is associated with gun violence is because of what happened Friday in Aurora.

Bullshit reportage.

I thought it was bs at first too, until I read that part.

He had newspaper clippings about the Aurora shooting in his car.

He admitted he had a loaded gun in his backpack when he went to the movie the night before.

It definitely suggests he was considering a copycat shooting and chickened out.

40. I went to see the batman movie this past weekend. Talk about weird.

All of the ushers were on high alert. They told us a new rule I'd never heard before... "do not use the emergency exits unless it is a real emergency". They were all whispering to each other. I think that theaters showing this movie are all on tenterhooks waiting for a copycat killer. Goddamned fucking fucker.

50. Since these mad dog killers are all insane, why don't we ever see one of them speeding

to put a brown paper sack with dog doo doo on someone's porch and set it on fire?

Why is that "insanity" thing so unimaginitive?

52. What the hell is wrong with people!

Batman is a comic book, a cartoon, not to be taken seriously.

53. Why give these men the fame that they are searching for?

If they dropped off the face of the earth into prison, into court, into prison if found guilty, it would make a dent in the death toll. It would find these things getting rarer, too.

Why pump up the gun culture this way? It's insanity.

57. It's also being reported

that police recovered a machine gun in his house. No word on whether it's illegal or not. If it's a legal class III, makes you wonder who backed him for it
How comforting
