White House press secretary Sean Spicer on Thursday said that President Donald Trump was not asking House Freedom Caucus members "for a deal" to win their support for the Republican bill to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act.
Trump met with members of the House Freedom Caucus on Thursday. Freedom Caucus Chair Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC), whose group has opposed the bill, said after the meeting that there was "no deal" with regard to the legislation.
"Mark Meadows came out of the meeting, he said there's no deal," NBC News reporter Hallie Jackson asked Spicer at his daily briefing. "Does the President acknowledge that this bill appears to be in trouble right now?"
"No. It's not a question of trouble. There's no deal," Spicer said. "We weren't asking for a deal."

White House press secretary Sean Spicer said he expected the House would vote on the American Health Care Act Thursday night.
Reuters Jeff Mason asked Spicer at his daily press briefing if he expected there would be a vote on the bill tonight.
Thats what I understand is the Houses schedule, yes, he responded.
Any chance that thats going to be pushed back? Mason asked.
That would be obviously up to Speaker Ryan and Leader McCarthy, but nothing leads me to believe thats the case, Spicer said.

(35,699 posts)Then what was all this about?
Trump thanked lawmakers who had opposed the health plan but worked with him and GOP leaders to get to "yes." He mentioned Reps. Tom MacArthur (R-N.J.), Tom McClintock (R-Calif.) and Martha McSally (R-Ariz.), who all announced their support Tuesday after changes were made to enhance health care tax credits for the elderly. Trump also thanked Republican Study Committee Chairman Mark Walker (R-N.C.), who negotiated a number of concessions for conservatives last week.
Then Trump got to Meadows. The Freedom Caucus chief visited the president at his Mar-a-Lago resort over the weekend to discuss changes he and a number of hard-liners wanted. The White House signaled, however, that negotiations were closing and conservatives had gotten all the concessions they would.

Sure sounds like some "deal making" was going on.

More meetings to come where they discuss the weather and make no "deals."
Since this guy in the White House has no claim to fame regarding "deals."
